Because I believe that we have the right to elect who represents us in Washington.

Popular vote...

Second choice being chosen by each house of the state legislature, but confirmed by the other.

Heh, maybe I should have left the popular vote option off. If you like the popular vote, please state your second favorite as well. Smiley

My first choice was each house of the state legislature appointing one Senator.

State legislatures, with each houe concurring on each appointment.

The states have no reperesentative to Washington, and the rights of states have not been respected as a result.  A lot of unfunded mandates have come down from Washington, and the states can't push back.

That's the way it was intended, with the states having a say in the federal government.

This poll was created just so the word "unicameral" could be used in proper context.

Electing senators by popular vote is what destroyed federalism and state's rights.

Agreed. The people have the House of Representatives, the Senate was supposed to represent state governments. The founders rightly understood that the masses should have a say in their governance, but that the masses were capable of making tyrannous and uneducated decisions, so they made one house elected by government and one elected by the masses - one to counter the other, and maintain a balance of power. No one group, whether it be government or the people, should ever gain too much power. By popular election of Senators, the balance of power was ruined.

I guess my 2nd favorite choice would be:

State legislatures, but both houses should have to agree on each appointment

Exactly.  This is exactly the way I feel on this.
