Hey man...

what if there was like, an election, and no one showed up for the primaries

would it be Obama vs Generic Republican?

It would either fall completely to the convention delegates or each state would put up their own candidate. Or it might even fall to the electors (in which case they could put either "Generic Republican" or "Not Obama" on the ballot).
