Women who do not wear headscarves are being threatened with violence and even death by Islamic extremists intent on imposing sharia law on parts of Britain, it was claimed today.

Other targets of the 'Talibanesque thugs', being investigated by police in the Tower Hamlets area of London, include homosexuals.

Stickers have been plastered on public walls stating: 'Gay free zone. Verily Allah is severe in punishment'.

Power through fear is their weapon.  You have to expect an act of such violence because that's how extremists (In any religion or creed) maintain power.  I feel for Muslims who try so hard to distance themselves from such extremists to no avail.  There's always that radical minority in any society that somehow labels an entire population.

There are thugs and nutters in all ethnic/religious/cultural/whatever communities. The causes - as far as is safe to generalise* - are pretty uniform across them (especially when we're talking about the young, broke and violent). What this article does (yes, I read it, though Lord knows why I bothered - once you've seen one Mail article on this sort of subject you've seen them all, and this was not an exception, alas) is focus on that tendency within a particular community and use it (quite dishonestly) as evidence of a wider and much more serious problem. It's quite effective because people have got used to seeing Muslims as an 'Other', so fill in all the blanks themselves and don't question the leaps of logic in the article.

Of course you could focus on the laughably loose uses of 'sources' and so on in the article, by why bother? It's a British tabloid ffs.

And Rocket posted it because he's trolling (again).

Suprisingly when it was first reported, some claimed that it was the English Defence League who planted the stickers to stir up tension between the gays and Muslims. A few days ago arrests were made and those arrested were British asian.

Tower Hamley's has seen an alarming rise in homophobica attacks.

Unfortunately nothing will be done.
