Objectivism doesn't refer exclusively to Ayn Rand.

This is becoming painful. Objectivism is a meta-ethical theory about the objectivity of moral sentences. I believe it can also be used to refer to the meta-ethical theory of moral realism. In philosophy it is rarely used to refer to Rand.

Not saying that I agree or disagree but, can I ask what specific position you disagree with?

I don't have much of a problem with metaphysical objectivism, but Ayn Rand's "philosophy" is almost obscenely disgusting. Not disgusting because it offends, but because of how ridiculous her claims are.

Not rigorous at all, and she had some terrible interpretations of Kant (if in fact she did read his work.)

Well the very premise of it is that you should be a selfish asshole with no regard for anyone else.

I find any theory that purports to establish that our preferences over society's organization may be anything but subjective, at most, amusing. In any case, I am no philosopher, just a doctor of philosophy, so I'd leave it to those who care about such issues Smiley))

One of the silliest, yet most disturbing "philosophies" of all time.

That generally an agreeable statement, yes. Smiley

Because everyones required to share with you, right?

Anyway, I say negative, because it denies the existence of God.

There actually is a middle ground between requiring everyone to share & advocating being a selfish asshole. Ayn Rand argued against altruism in general, so that being taxed to fund welfare programs was wrong, but so was donating to charity. It's quite fitting that she would deny the existence of God, as her ideas are directly contraposed to the teachings of Christ. What would Jesus say about this?:

Her entire point is that you don't have to be nice to anyone, which runs counter to the way I live my life and counter to a healthy society.

I have some of the aforementioned complaints:
Denying God's existence, going so far as to say that charity itself was imoral, etc.
Needless to say, not my type of ideology.

Only Rand I've read is Anthem.  I found it to be a second-rate version of Harrison Bergeron.

Haha. That probably sums it all up. Harrison Bergeron is awesome.

My problem with Rand is really her inconsistency. She hasn't analyzed egoism and altruism sufficiently.
