If he maintains his numbers and status until September/October, then the comparison will be more accurate.  They are already similar in that no smart money was on Giuliani despite breathless press accounts portraying him as the "Frontrunner."

close... but the overtones of wackiness were never so present with Giuliani.

The reasons for Trump and Giuliani being in the positions they are/were are quite different. As such I'd say the comparison fails.

No.

Giuliani is/was a competent political leader.

Trump is a competent real estate developer and a media whore tv personality.

I believe that he took the space that otherwise Mike Huckabee or Giuliani waited to long for and filling that gap. Mike Huckabee may very well come in in September like Fred Thompson, but he isn't the anti romney like he would have if he gotten into the game sooner.

While not a big fan of Rudy, this.

Trump's at least worked himself into his current "position" through something resembling a strategy, even though its prospects of long-term success are nil.

Giuliani had the fortune to be mayor of New York City on Sept. 11, 2001 but very little discernible political talent.

Hopefully he fails as bad as Rudy. He kept me waiting in a flooded, steamy, muddy park in Boca to hear him. I left early because this local radio host was hogging the microphone for a hour and half. Worst part is, it was supposed to be a Tea Party event but it became a propaganda fest for Trump, the GOP. On my way out, I was forced to walk around the place, because a huge portion of the street, and public sidewalk was "restricted". Oh well, thats my rant for the day.

Besides being a utter joke, hijacking the GOP nomination away from people who actually can win, and have good ideas, and insulting me, and my fellow Paultards, alot.

I more associate Donald Trump with a Mike Gravel type campaign.  Gravel was popular on paper, but never went anywhere.  I think Trump will end up being the same thing, never amounting to much, but hanging around for a while just to wreak havoc in the GOP field.

Paul is at least honest!

Trump has no ideology except what everyone else thinks! He repeatedly called W the worst President ever and said early on the the Obama administration that you were crazy if you didn't think he was going to be the greatest President ever. Now, he turns around calling Jimmy Carter and Barrack Obama the worst Presidents ever and saying that he has always stood for Conservatism! His beliefs range anywhere from Conservative to Center to Liberal, and in no particular order!

Have you ever heard of the position of the spectrum called the center? Apparently that don't exist these days.

I think we can all agree that thats Santorum, not Paul. Trump is in it for the attention. He wanted UHC in 2000, now Obamacare is bad to him? Its not the center. Its hypocracy!

People can change their position over time. I used to believe in the Conservative economy method, but when I got older I started to like the Clinton policy better.

To quote myself:

Donald Trump strikes me as someone without any firmly-held beliefs, who just goes with whatever his "gut" feeling is at any given point on any given issue.  That's why he latches on to faddish ideas and conspiracy theories so easily.

And of course Obama is among the worst presidents ever, along with that Wilsonian Socialist Dubya.

He's not Centrist! He's not Conservative! He's not Liberal! He just chooses whatever he wants at any given time, and one of the better descriptions is what wormyguy posted. I'd say my reasoning against him, but I've already said it.

He's a Libertarian, which pretty much gives him license to insult every President except Coolidge and maybe Ford. Conservatives have that right except with maybe either Coolidge or Reagan. Democrats have that right except with FDR, and so it goes...

Well, you're calling him a Liberal, so I thought I'd point out...
