Hmmm, a few from years gone by:

The February 2005 election with Naso v. Nym, and specifically the Teamspeak PAC (FEC, etc) which effectively racketeered fantasy politics at the time.

Bgwah (Jesus)'s slash fiction about Bono and Hitler.

Assad's attempts to see how far he could go before he could get banned, followed by the "Free Assad" movement, which gives hope to all trolls today.

When will "Update" be unlocked? Or will we have to start a new discussion in another thread?

my wife has always been the keymaster...I am not dumb enough to allow myself to be alone with an unfiltered internet..it is called avoiding temptation

You're like an adorable little boy!  You can't make decisions for yourself and must depend on 'mommy' to take care of your wantons.  Very cute!

Look's like he's in trouble

I think I speak for a lot of people in saying the Update thread is one of the only reasons I come to the forum as often as I do. It would be a travesty to keep it permanently locked.

I hope I speak for some people in saying that I don't come here to watch the masochistic equivalent of gladiator games and if moderators use their discretion to prevent people from doing things they should regret later, more power to them.

The difference between Naso and BushOK is that the former is actually funny.

It helps that two of Assad's greatest remarks are in that thread also.

Besides the Naso stuff, another funny part of that thread is the n00bish postings of now-moderator Joe Republic.

Joe had a bad sense of sarcasm back in the day. I remember a thread where angus went on some long obviously sarcastic rants against the French and Joe was calling him out for being "bigoted".

No kidding.  I look back at my early days here the same way I look back at my middle school days.  I wish I could give my younger self a slap sometimes.

LOL here's a classic one from old Joe. Not for his posts of course but the results: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=14994.msg328962

Remember what I said about how Moderate Hero-infested this forum used to be? I can't think of any better proof.

Haha, I remember far too well the "WARNER/BAYH 08!!!!!!" fanboys.

Though also from that thread, he's a very good example of how silly it is to predict politics far ahead of time:

Hey guys, answer a couple of questions:

When was the last time a United States Senator was elected to the Presidency?

When was the last time a Democrat Presidential nominee from outside the south was elected to the Presidency?

Since that date, how many Democrat Govenors from the south who have been nominated for the Presidency were elected?

I was kind of stupid back then. I'm still stupid now, but hopefully I hide it better.

I remember back in the day I found your generation of new posters very annoying, Xahar. You, DWTL, BenConstine, JewCar, Hashemite, etc. Over the years, though, some have left while the rest became great posters. Yet still, even when I thought you were all annoying you were still much better posters than (almost) all of the newbies that have come in the past year or so.

Yeah, I was a borderline troll back in 2007 or so in addition to being dumb. I mean, I liked Harper back then so obviously my brain didn't work well.

Has it been long enough to declare the untimely death of update a significant event? It obviously is one.

I'd rather someone who liked Harper than someone who's completely obssessed with Harper being the Anti-Christ. You're starting to remind me of Captain Ahab here.

I was nice and polite, when I arrived in mid-2009.
