actually, what I said was:

I don't know of any christian hc bands...to me christianty demands you speak clearly and with purpose...and my vision of hc doesn't match that

so, if it's just a bunch of screaming and chaos, I can't see what that has to do with being Christian music...it may not be a sin to scream and jump around, I do it all the time watching sports or even reeling in a fish, but I dont see how screaming and jumping have anything to do with Christianity

Look in the upper left of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJtdSXhBJO4

You can clearly see that's a cross. They are playing a Christian venue clearly (I believe it's a church)

What does it have to do with Christianity? The lyrics:

And there's this song:

i can't understand a single word they are singing so the song is only Christian if you ignore the band and simply read the lyrics

It is really not hard to understand screaming, you just have to be conditioned for it. If you watch a lot of videos from Dudefest and the like you'll notice people singing along.

And why would they not have screaming in a song like that? It fits.

now that I've read the lyrics, I dont find them very christian.  they include Christian words like grace, but I don't see any grace in the meaning of the song....probably their confusion should come as no surprise, since they think their chaos and unintelligible screams have something to do with Jesus

so, it's my fault I cant make out a single word?!  i don't know if youre aware of it, but the NT clearly teaches against presenting the gospel with chaos and intelligible words:

1cor 14:7 Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the pipe or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? 8 Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? 9 So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10 Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11 If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. 12 So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.,,,33For God is not a God of disorder but of peace

And note that Psalm quote above. There is nothing UnChristian about "loud" music. What would you advise a Christian who likes this type of music listen to? (For the record I listen to both Christian bands and atheist bands, I listen to bands that promote straightedge though I clearly am not, I don't really care. I'd never listen to any right wing band though.)

loud?  who said anything about being loud?  i said it was unintelligible - meaning I, and probably >95% of the rest of the english speaking world, cant understand a single word.

Well that doesn't make it UnChristian either.

As I said, what would you advise a Christian who likes this type of music to listen to? Should they listen to the many bands that promote atheism instead? (They do so just as unintelligibly of course, which is why I don't care that much. I do listen to far more atheist bands, but only because they tend to be better. The best bands though overall tend to be the "neutral" ones that completely leave their religious beliefs or lack thereof out of it.)

i dont care what they listen to, just dont try to present something unintelligible as attempting to convene anything "Christian" to the rest of 95% of us..because to the rest of us it's just that - unintelligible.... i.e. it has no meaning

In reference to the link kindly provided by one BRTD:
How do you listen to this sh**t? It's horrible! I don't care if it worships God, Ra, or the devil, it's no more appealing.

I'm actually not a big fan of that band at all. I used to mock them a bunch on another forum. I just like that one song. That's about it for their output.

Another Christian hardcore band though, mewithoutYou is one of my favorite bands of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-NYiM0klqM

It's funny how no-one in the room's responding at all to the music. They've probably never heard of Kesha (no I will not spell it with the "$").

Anyway, I never really took to Christian music for pure enjoyment. There are some songs in Church that I like and enjoy singing in Church, but don't expect me to have them on my ipod. I don't think you'd know or have heard of any of the songs in the "gather" hymn book, so I won't bother mentioning them.

However, I tend to enjoy some songs involving religion, such as Marc Cohn's "Saints Preserve Us" and and "Saving the Best for Last" (can't seem to find them on youtube). They're not so much "Praise the Lord" as "God Exists" songs.

So overall do you prefer the Kesha thing or the video linked before?

And the fact that the people in that room have probably never heard of her does show one advantage to being an old. There isn't many.

Out of the three video links I've seen here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJtdSXhBJO4 (randomass trash found in Church)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-NYiM0klqM (mewithoutYou)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5ISiPl0GjU (Kesha copy-off)

I'd say I liked the second one the best, though I switched to a different recording for better quality.

Out of numbers one and three, I'm not sure. I dis-like them for different reasons.

tongues:  if the gift of tongues is not met with someone being given the gift of the interpretion of what was spoken in tonques, then the new testament commands the one speaking in tongues to shut up and sit down since no one can derive any benefit from it because they don't understand what he is saying...

...which is exactly my point and is why I previous posted the earlier passage that was actually referring to tongues....

so think you very much for helping me to reiterate my point

why r u so dumb that u can't see if someone can't make out a single word, that to that person what is being said is a big fat ZERO?  if I can't understand what you are saying, u could be praising god or praising the devil and I wouldn't know the difference...if I am looking at a tv screen full of static-snow, i'm not going to be able to tell if the broadcaster is broadcasting a church service or a porn movie because all I am seeing is static

get it?

OK but I like that type of music. Now let's imagine I was like BushOklahoma who said he mostly only listens to Christian music and would never listen to anything with swearing. Considering that the vast majority of secular bands in that style have lots of swearing* and often would no doubt be very offensive to someone like you or BushOklahoma what would you suggest someone who likes that style but is similar to you or BushOK listen to?

*Of course I've heard Christian band swear too. Not in their lyrics, but they've done plenty of swearing in stage banter and just hanging out at the show.
