Teachers as a profession have a very difficult job and as such they should be respected for performing such an important role in society.

The job wouldn't have to be difficult - and in fact could be performed far better (to the benefit of the students) if we simply spent about 4 times as much money on the problem.  Teachers should be working about half the hours they are now (20 hours per week is reasonable), and should be paid about twice as much.

This is a formula I would apply to most jobs and to the economy in general - thus solving both human misery and the macro-economic problem of dearth-of-demand.

opebo - are you real? or the ether impregnated silicone in a microchip deep in the bowels of a lost sever somewhere in the catacombs of Hillary's bra?  just curious...

Quite the contrary. I don't see why a teacher ought to be paid more then a grand per head.

30k is more then enough for teaching a class of 30 students every day all day.

And I am a teacher.

You cant afford to live on that here. You are also not going to attract people with the required skills and education level with that money.

It's absurd to make the pay proportional like that, disregarding specific numbers.
