How does Google kill the address bar of non-Google browsers?

(After all, most people, myself included, don't use it.)

Would that be much different?  Wouldn't it go to the web site, unless a search query was entered instead?

I do agree that this could lead to increases in phishing schemes, especially among people who don't know how to use computers well.

Under the new Chrome plan it'd just be hidden. Click on a tab and it'd appear but once you enter the site, it goes away. So of course it becomes far easier for phisers, rickrollers and leads to a lot more mistakes with mistyped URLs.

The truth: Chrome sucks. Everyone should just use Opera.

This is correct.

It's a shame Opera isn't more well known or used, it's the only browser with no major flaws and does everything very solidly. It basically pioneered tab-based browsing too. The only thing I don't like about it is the inability to Watch Instantly on Netflix on it, but eh, I keep IE for that only. And the new Dave's Redistricting App works too which was another rare weakness.

At least it's the most popular browser in Ukraine and a few other ex-Soviet countries. Fun site by the way: http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-200901-201001-bar

Why are Anglophone countries so epic fail in using IE overwhelmingly?

Well Thailand is even more IE. That's one area where The Bad Place is better (not much better granted.)

Opera is paying the price for having a poor business model in the 2000s.  People were desperate to move away from IE around 2004-05, Firefox won the war because it was the only free alternative.  Opera gave out free trials but had to be purchased and that was a turnoff.  Firefox became the standard.

That's the one thing I'm regularly using Chrome rather than Firefox for. Works a lot better, for some reason.

I have no idea why, but the new FF beta works really slowly on my computer. That's really the only reason why I use Chrome. I have Opera installed, but I never started using it because of the Netflix thing.

Every website works fine on Firefox. So I use that.

And as a bitter old 21-year-old, I'm too far stuck in my ways to ever change.

I'm the king of stubborn browser preferences. I stuck with Netscape until it got so crappy IE became the better browser. Once Firefox came out I switched to that and haven't looked back. So over a good 16 or so years of Internet usage, I've switched browsers twice.

I hate the way Chrome looks, and I don't like the fact that the other browsers seem to be trying to copy it.

I used to use Firefox too but it would freeze up all the time on my old comp. So I switched to the far more stable Opera. With my new computer I didn't even bother installing Firefox, Opera works so stable I saw no reason to go back. The only other browser I keep is IE for Netflix Watch Instantly. I used to use it for Dave's Redistricting App but as noted above no longer need to.

Opera > Safari > *huge gap* > Firefox > Chrome > IE

If BushOklahoma doesn't use IE I'd be kind of scared really.

Opera > Safari > *huge gap* > Firefox > Chrome > IE

There's a huge gap between the first two too. I just downloaded Opera a couple days ago and it's much, much faster and more efficient.
