We got snow you know. 10 inches today, more expected tomorrow, could be 18 inches. Of course I don't work tomorrow but on Tuesday there will then be SNOW on the roads, OMG! I think my 12 mile drive is too far, I should go get a motel room.

Motel rooms are now synonymous with a poster's inability to get to work, rather than sex. Boy, this is a weird, weird place.

Creating a poll to do this is some ironic satire.

No way in hell I'd be going to work at all if we had 10 inches of snow.

Man, you'd hate Wyoming, then. I mean, come on, we can get upwards of two feet of snow at one time. Tongue

I'm pretty sure Memphis is a teacher so it really wouldnt matter. Dont think they open up schools down South after major snowfall.

He once mentioned he works on Saturday as part of his normal work week so you must have him confused with that other red Tennessee avatar (who is a teacher from what I remember.)

I certainly would not go to work if there were 10-18 inches of snow.

I remember when I went with my friends to visit some of their relatives in Laramie and we went up this mountain to go sledding and then engage in snow fight wars.  Half way up the mountain I just fall into the snow and end up walking the rest of the way up half buried in it.

There is this thing called "plowing". All the main city roads and interstate will no doubt be clear by tomorrow. We had them cleared the next day after that blizzard in December that gave us twice as much. The last blizzard was the type of thing we get on a semi-annual basis.

We don't have any plows here. All we have are the salt/brine trucks.

Yeah, if you live in an area that gets hit with snow often, you have plows. We in the warmer climes do not, or if we do, there's like, 3 or 4 to go around for the entire region. The interstates will get plowed by the next day (though they never do the onramps properly), but everything else will still be slippery.

Considering we get 10 inch plus snowfalls at least 5-6 times per winter here, I'd go broke pretty fast. Because of Lake Superior's lake effect, the UP is the snowiest non-mountainous place in the US; we get about 200 inches per year here in Marquette and the Keweenaw Peninsula gets about 300 inches per year. Of course we have huge snowplows that if they collided with a car the driver of the plow wouldn't even notice, they are pretty impressive actually. Smiley

I do understand how it's different in the South, though, since they have no ability to clear anything, so a few inches is far more paralyzing. But regardless, just drive super slowly if you have to and you should be ok, heck if it's 15 miles and you have to go 15 mph the entire way (absolute worst case scenario assuming roads are complete glare polished ice) that's still only an hour drive. Stressful yes, but you'll get there ok at that speed.

There's about a half an inch of ice covering the roads since yesterday, nothing closed down today. No big deal, just really slippery but everyone can still drive on it.
