I  didnt watch CPAC because  I hate GOProud, and refuse to support them and anyone who supports them. But I saw some of Newt's speech and it was great!

So you'd rather alienate more people from the Republican party, causing them to vote Democrat? That's a bad idea in it's own.

Gay marriage isn't anywhere near my top issues, however pro-gay republicans whine like little bitches and it annoys me.

I oppose groups and people like GOProud, the Log cabin Repubs, and Fred Karger because they whine and whine.

Uh....watching it on TV doesn't "support" CPAC or GOProud.  It's not like CPAC gets any $ based on the # of people watching on C-SPAN.  And of course, no one even knows whether you're watching it anyway unless you've got a Nielsen box.

The only time they whine is against the Obama admin and the Democrats...just like the straight Republicans...

They're about to announce the straw poll results, but this article claims to already have the top two:

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=41746

Paul 30%
Romney 23%
"all other candidates tied with about 6% each"

This thread sure has taken an interesting progression. Tongue From bilderburgers to goproud.

As Ann Coulter said in 2007 before the Iowa Straw poll on a Fox Show, "I am just here for Iowa results". The show ended up ending before they were released. That was certainly an interesting night. Well anyway, I am only here for CPAC results. Tongue

Great showing by Johnson, I'm sure he'll announce his run soon now. Many big guys disappointed. And LOL at Palin.

Couldn't find how Mitch Daniels did.

I haven't watched all the speeches yet, but I agree with the ones I've seen. Besides Cain, I think it was more of a B+ than B-

On a side note, Johnson has won the RLC Straw Poll, way ahead of Paul. He'll be the keynote speaker of the RLC National Convention tonight. Looks like RLC has already decided who they'll be endorsing.

And he managed that without even showing up.  Christie got the highest %age among the "candidates" who didn't attend the meeting.  The others who didn't attend were Palin, Huckabee, and Huntsman, and Christie got as many votes as those three combined.

Paul, Christie, and Johnson certainly overperformed. Huckabee and Palin underperformed.

the only one that isn't is the Ames Straw Poll, but that poll isn't really about predicting winners

and lol to Paul spending 100k on the event, that's real fiscally conservative. 100k for a joke straw poll

No, Ron Paul's organization (Campaign for Liberty) spent 100k at the event, most of it coming from donations from Ronpaulforums.com (there was a huge donation drive over there).

Also, I love how everyone is now saying "this poll doesn't matter". If Romney won, it would be "This shows that Romney has the drive to win the next election".

The point of winning the CPAC poll isn't to show that a person actually has that level of support from the average person, it is to give them star power, media coverage, etc. I would say it worked out great for Paul. Even ignoring the poll itself and the people who will treat him more seriously from seeing the results, it seems like every third major news article in the past couple days has been about CPAC, and a disproportionate amount of those are about Ron and Rand.
