When I was younger, the State of the Union used to be that annoying day once a year where George Bush would be on TV instead of Zoboomafoo. I'm older now, but it still doesn't interest me.

Tomorrow's a holiday here (Australia Day), so even though it'll be on in the early afternoon Sydney time, I might actually watch it.

I would watch it streaming on the internet.  Maybe C-Span.

Yes, and in all likelihood it will be on network television, like I have dutifully seen every State of the Union speech since Bill Clinton was president.

I don't terribly care what the President of the United States has to say and I'm sure the feeling is reciprocated Tongue

Because MSNBC has never criticized Obama.

I get your talking points checked. They're about two years+ old.

Well to be fair, Maddow and the other MSNBCers has a tendancy to forget all their critizism once Obama says something that is somewhat-progressive or manages to get the most minor-Democratic legislation passed, and he's suddenly super-man all over again.

I reckon I'll watch it.  As much as I can, anyway.  At some point the boy will want to slide down the banister or swing from the ceiling fan or slingshot my martini glass down the hallway so I'll have interruptions.  Won't really matter what channel, so long as it's pretty.  I find that the modulation of colors and volume varies a bit from channel to channel, so I generally pick one that is aesthetically pleasing.  Although, this year it's all digital, so it'll be interesting to see if they differ as much as in the past.  So far, digital is inferior to analog, with weird imaging problems sometimes, and odd noises, but maybe they'll eventually work out the bugs.

or slingshot my martini glass down the hallway .

Any of those other behaviors are normal for a kid, but this warrants the death penalty (unless the glass was empty)  Tongue

He saw a Wrist Rocket at Wal-Mart one day and hasn't been the same since.  I won't get him one, but he's got a pretty good head for engineering and knows where my stash of rubber bands (and o-rings, and latex tubing) is.  Sometimes I catch him experimenting with different types of projectiles.  He's been made to understand that glass objects are off-limits.  I think.

I rarely get to watch a one-hour program uninterrupted these days.  It's alright, though.  SOTU addresses are mostly propaganda and usually don't hear anything we haven't heard before.  I'm kinda hoping he'll quote Eisenhower's farewell address, just for fun:

“We must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow.  We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage.  We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.”

Not that we'll heed him if he says something like that.  After all, we apparently didn't take Eisenhower very seriously.

Yes... probably FOX.  But it could be PBS or a local channel... I don't really care about what station.  And as soon as it and the rebuttal are over, the TV goes off so I can try to write my column before midnight.

As someone who watches MSNBC on a regular basis I don't have a clue what you're talking about. "Maddow and other MSNBCers" consistently criticize Obama and other Democrats nearly as often as they do Republicans. Maddow occasionally recounts passed legislation and it's effects and potential benefits, but she's only really doing that because virtually no one outside blogs actually seem to pay enough attention to focus on the ins and outs of legislation at all. But she and others certainly never lose sight of criticizing Obama relentlessly.

Yes, I apologize. I'll quickly switch over to MSNBC to watch them either drool all over themselves in adoration or attack him for not blasting the GOP enough...while also lecturing us on how we have to watch our tone.

Assuming for argument's sake that Maddow and the MSNBC crowd criticizes Obama and the dems nearly as much as the real bad guys...I highly doubt that they really get the same treatment.

I'm guessing that when Obama strays, Maddow and the gang criticize him in the same manner a parent disciplines a child...yes it might be painful, yes it might be harsh...but at the end of the day, mommy and daddy still love their babykins.  They will still tear the friggin face off anyone who really tries to harm them...a la the GOP.
