Gingrich is Palin with a brain.

I expect him to mop the floor with the likes of Huckabee and Romney in a debate.

If people think Pelosi is polarizing...

The difference is, Gingrich is far more polarizing within his own party than Pelosi is, imo.

I just don't get why any Republican would take him seriously as a candidate. What is appealing about him?

1) He hates Obama

2) He can be very articulate

3) Uber name recognition (which many think would not be a liability)

Don't count me in on his bandwagon Wink

What if Huckabee runs, does that split Gingrichs base?

6) He's actually done some big stuff in the congress, a lot was even bi-partisan like wealfare reform meanwhile in the last decade the only major things that have come from republicans were No Child Left Behind, big tax cuts, and a couple of wars

Gingrich's behind the scenes courting of endorsements seems to be paying off.

Georgia governor Nathan Deal says he'll endorse Gingrich if he runs:

http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2011/01/25/nathan-deal-says-hed-support-newt-gingrich/

And the House Majority Leader of Iowa's legislature also says that she's "pretty likely to support him":

Newt Gingrich has never won an election outside of Georgia's former 6th congressional district.

Correct answer. Seriously, who outside metro Atlanta who is Gingrich's base and why does it support him over the myriad of other likely candidates? Please advise.

I don't think Gingrich has the ability to pick up swing states, which would hurt the GOP greatly in the election.

Illinois has more diverse issues than Georgia's 6th district.

Newt Gingrich has never won an election outside of Georgia's former 6th congressional district.

He's never run for anything outside the 6th district, despite his many, many chances.

(P.S. I'm not even going near his bandwagon.)

Newt Gingrich doesn't have a bandwagon, he has a band-jet with leather interior. *rolls eyes*

yet Gingrich actually had accomplishments, many of them bi-partisan while Obama brought up nothing and continues to contradict what he so passionatly spoke about on the Senate floor. A balanced budget, defense of marriage act, welfare reform, it just goes on

Attempting to impeach Clinton in a clear act of partisianship.  Not holding an office for over a decade.  Having a mess of a personal life.

If Gingrich goes anywhere it will be the same way that people like JFK, Napoleon, and Ghengis Khan got people to follow them; sheer force of personality.  I don't see how that's any better than Obama.

This should be entertaining - very entertaining. Newt just thinks he is so smart, when really he is just so dumb. As Barney Frank put it so well, Newt is in love with the idea of having an idea, without really having any of any depth. JMO. I am quite serious about this.

I'm not saying he's not a dedicated republican. But I am saying some of the best stuff we've seen in the last two decades has come out of Gingrich working with Clinton
