I like Brit, and I think he would do a good job, but I highly doubt he'd leave his current position for that seat.  I think a mid-career person would move in . . . someone fresh enough to change the air of CBS, but someone old enough to handle the transition.

i like brit hume.  however, he is quite obviously a conservative.  i dont know if you want someone with such blatant bias as a evening news anchor.

vorlon, ive seen you mention that brit hume has a republican past.  im not aware of his background...can you shed some light?

The lack of an heir apparent certainly undermines the Rather/CBS claim that this is not being rushed.  Brian Williams has been waiting in the wings for what, five years now?

There is absolutely NO chance whatsoever that CBS would select Brit Hume.

Hume is an honest, fair and intelligent newsman.  NOT acceptable at CBS.

There is an heir apparent-- John Roberts is his name if I recall. He's subbed many times for Rather.

I predict CBS will, in an attempt to boost ratings, turn the CBS news program into a new realty show, something along the lines of:

"Who wants to be a Network Anchor...?"

or perhaps..

"America's next top News Reader"

where they have a set of contestants learn about and then read the news while America votes for the best candidate for the job...

Think "American Idol" meets "College Bowl"...

Face it, CBS News has zero credibility anyway, the are a journalistic joke - but by turning the broadcast into a game show or a reality TV series they could at least boost the ratings.

Just a thought Smiley

That sounds a lot more like the kind of show Fox would put on. And sadly I am not joking.
