Perry has said, repeatedly, on the record, that he's not running for president in 2012.  Just thought I'd mention this.

Perry is also going to be attending the Reagan 100th birthday celebration in Chicago next month, along with potential 2012ers John Bolton, Newt Gingrich, Mike Pence, and Rick Santorum:

UPDATE: Perry advisor Dave Carney denies that they're doing polling outside of Texas:

He's already denied interest in 2012 though, hasn't he?

Yes, as I said in my post.  But of course there have been numerous cases in which a potential candidate denied interest publicly, yet privately put out feelers to gauge interest in a campaign.

There's only a very small chance of him running. I think he wants to die as Governor of Texas.

I don't see anything wrong with that, but I love Governor Perry, he's the only Governor in the nation that I like more than our own Governor, Chris Christie.

He's also skipping the Super Bowl in Dallas to go to Reagan's birthday party.  Could be a sign he's positioning for a run, but it could just be nothing more than the disqualifying poor judgment.

The issue with Perry is would the country want another Texas Governor as President just 4 years after the last one? I don't think the country would want that.

I don't think that will be a key factor. I mean, it looks like Jeb Bush would have a fairly good shot at defeating Obama. If someone named Bush could beat him, I think someone from Texas could as well.

Jeb isn't going to be President. For the last 22 years, all Republican Presidents have been named Bush. An entire generation of Republican politicians have grown under the Bushes. It's likely thought it's time someone else had a chance.

Probably not, because he's not going to run. However, if he did chose to run, I think he'd instantly be a frontrunner for the nomination, and would pose a serious threat to Obama.

If Perry's the GOP nominee, I REALLY doubt anyone who otherwise wouldn't is going to go to the ballot box and vote for Obama because they don't want another Texas governor as president.

That cuts into his plans for being Governor of Texas for the rest of eternity. I doubt he'll do anything, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him throwing his name into the ring for Hutchinson's open seat.
