(c) The AP   -  ok Lunar?  Tongue

"Arizona state politicians will introduce model legislation this week to encourage states to prevent children of illegal immigrants from being granted citizenship under the 14th Amendment.

Lawmakers in at least 14 states have said they are committed to passing the legislation targeting birthright citizenship. Arizona's anti-illegal-immigrant bill, SB-1070, was also based on model legislation that could be easily copied by states, and at least seven states are likely to pass bills similar to the first Arizona immigration overhaul this year."

It could just be one random crazy in the state legislature, though. It's far different from saying that these states have passed bills to that effect.

Obviously just a pander. Not like state legislators think they can nullify the constitution in their state.

Anything else we can do to convince ourselves that Hispanics aren't real people and it's ok that we don't care about them?

True, but Republicans dominate all those states' legislatures besides Delaware (and Mississippi but counting there is a stretch.) Lynch can veto in New Hampshire, but there are enough Republicans to override a veto.

The hand wringing in this thread was too predictable.

I won't say that I agree with the motives of some pushing this. Someone mentioned that this could be just one crazy pushing this in a state legislature. Try to notice my winking here. Get it? That being said, it isn't racist to support this.

Why do I have a feeling Mike Delph is involved in this? Ugh, looks like I have some work to do.

I haven't found any reasoning behind this yet, so race is really the only logical possibility.

...or they are tired of people taking advantage of the system.

I just wish these debates didn't become "You want to change the law because you hate brown people."

Damn those little kids using us.  The whole point is that we are available to be taken advantage of.  There's no reason we shouldn't be doing whatever we can to educate people that are in this country whether we like it or not.  If we want immigrants to hold jobs other than those at the lowest level, we should be willing to educate them.  It is about not liking Hispanics, there's literally not a reason in the world we wouldn't want more people having better jobs paying more taxes.  It's not even like there are multiple levels to this issue.  It's such a simple concept yet people are always making it seem like so much is being ignored by bringing up race.

Same, no other nation of the world with a similar degree of power as the United States allows children born on their soil to automatically become citizens. Too many people abuse the system now with the intent of staying on American soil because their children were born here.

Yes cramped classrooms and crowded hospital emergency rooms will really help increase the approval ratings of Hispanics.

No?  Bad idea?  Let's not forget that this entire country comes from immigrants.

Doesn't mean that anybody who wants to come in should be allowed to and I'm an immigrant.

Or their parents breaking the law.

Yep, it's that black and white. I'm a racist.  Roll Eyes

I'm sorry if you're that blind that you can't see the obvious problem here. There literally isn't a reason in the world why people breaking the law to come here and use services while jumping ahead of others that patiently wait their turn would be a problem?

No one is suggesting passing an immigrant exclusion act or quota. The policy needs to be reformed and stopped being taken advantage of.

Is this kid for real? You really are that oblivious? You're using the "nation of immigrants" argument? Thanks, Fezzy. I, of all people, am not aware that we are a nation of immigrants.  Roll Eyes

This is about legal vs. illegal immigration.

I was going to ask if they were willing to come to the Sun Belt to experience how dire the problem is.

Not to mention the adverse selection and moral hazard problems and the underlying social problems.

Even my immigrant parents had me change schools because of the impending social problems of where parents neither spoke English nor had the time to prepare their children for school
