I know that Phil will dismiss it as "Librul Media at Work" but anyway, I report, you decide:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1210/Boisterous_Christie_honeymoon_ending.html

The latest display of contempt for anyone who disagrees with him was on display at a town hall meeting Friday in Parsippany.

Keith Chaudruc, of Madison, asked the governor how he could sign off on a tax cut for the rich while lunch-pail stiffs were hit with painful increases like transit fare hikes. After some give and take, Christie invited Chaudruc to the stage for “a conversation.”

Chaudruc, reluctant to be part of another Christie YouTube moment, was escorted to the stage by a state trooper. Chaudruc never got another word in. Twice Chaudruc’s size, Christie crowded his personal space, raised his voice and lectured him on economics with a wagging finger. Each time Chaudruc tried to make a point, Christie cut him off.

When Christie finished, Chaudruc motioned for the microphone. This was, after all, a “conversation.” Christie shooed him away and a trooper herded Chaudruc off stage.

The clip appears on YouTube under the title “Christie rips apart rude questioner,” a headline written, no doubt, by a Christie disciple.

I never got the buzz about Christie. He just seems like a typical Republican. Just because the Democratic party in that state is kind of sleazy doesn't automatically improve him.

Well, apparently some people think that giving the reins of government to Joe Pesci in a fat-suit is a good idea.

I really think people are just looking for reasons not to like him.  New Jersey still likes him and desperately needs him.  We have a more effective government than we have in decades.  Not perfect by any means, but better beyond compare.  People aren't going to agree with a lot of what he does, but everybody respects the fact that he's doing what he said he was going to do.  He's good and people are afraid of that.  And this is coming from a New Jerseyan who didn't even vote for him.

Px75, people love it when Christie does that. These are the same people that try to get into everyone else's faces about how wrong they are. It's about someone actually said something back to these types.

Since every guy that disagrees with Christie's policies is a big fan of stealing people's money by force (NJ having the highest tax burden of any state at both the state and local level) and giving it to egregiously undeserving individuals; NJ having one of the most wastefully lavish education budgets - and, until recently, increasing, while ranking among the lowest in standardized testing scores, and declining - yes, every guy that disagrees with Christie's policies is a bully.

No, it is not. These are the people that think they are really smart going up to Christie and others and starting their smack talk, as if it were the Word of God. It's old. It's tiring. It needs to stop. It's not the liberal way or the highway, anymore.

The problem is that in this particular instance the guy asked a legitimate question in a respectful manner and Christie's bullying was totally unwarranted and downright disgraceful.
At the end of the clip I was surprised that Joe Miller's goons didn't make a cameo to arrest the questioner.

This is the end of the honeymoon? Px, honestly, you have to do much better than this. It's really pathetic on your part. I love how your editorializing (bringing me up in the opening line, no less!) is your way of simply "reporting."

I really think people are just looking for reasons not to like him.

Px has an obsessive hatred with him. Still not exactly sure what it's about but he makes it his mission to blast him every chance he gets and pulls me into it as well.

I think he probably just can't stand the fact that Christie is popular and can't easily tear him apart (like people can do with Palin). He's seen as a threat so his haters have to nitpick.

I never got the buzz about Christie. He just seems like a typical Republican. Just because the Democratic party in that state is kind of sleazy doesn't automatically improve him.

"Kind of sleazy." Yeah, that's it. "Kind of."

What took you so long? Wink

The headline isn't mine, it's Ben Smith's from the Politico blogpost I posted.

I hate bullies in general and Christie is one of the worst: a self-righteous one. I don't see anything noble and admirable when a man of power is terrorizing or ridiculing ordinary citizens, with the help of state troopers.

These "ordinary citizens" are fighting with him just as he's fighting with them. They know what they're getting themselves into. They want to do it. They want to try to trip him up, too. So he ends up owning them and everyone that doesn't like him politically whines that he's a bully. Give me a break.

It's pretty easy to "own" someone when you refuse to give him the microphone to answer and then order the state troopers to take him off stage.

He's owned plenty of people in the past. This one wanted to hold things up so he cut it off. Big deal.

Honestly, this sympathy for the "ordinary citizens" is laughable. They know what they're doing. They go there with the intention of tripping up the Governor. They have to deal with the consequences.

I almost hope he yells at me tomorrow even though I agree with him! It would be an honor.

So your argument is this:
"It's their fault being bullied because they have the nerve to ask unpleasant questions.
If they only agreed with him then he would be much more kind with them".
Sounds very democratic.

I know I come from a backwards country, but here we still appreciate it when our politicians treat with respect even the most obnoxious voters.
And that guy in the video was anything but obnoxious.

Roll Eyes

You really are horrific at twisting words.

I said that they go there with the intention of screwing with him. They and everyone else know what they are getting themselves into. Christie is giving them what they dish out.

You try to have it only your way. Of course they aren't being unfair to Christie! He's just being a big meanie. Get a clue.

The guy asked a legitimate question in a respectful manner. Where did you see that he wanted to "screw" Christie?

And frankly I don't know if Christie is really is that big a prick or if he just follows the instructions of his advisers to cultivate the image of a "strong leader" who's not afraid to show his disdain for all those "damn libruls".

And I know that you wouldn't resist the urge to disparage my argument with an ad hominem attack.
The fact is that even Margaret Thatcher, certainly no pushover, faced some very tough questions from her constituents and never resorted into bullying and name-calling.
Perhaps it's a European thing, one of those that Republicans hate because it makes us so effeminate.

Maybe this guy in particular wasn't but he chose to engage the Governor. He knew what he was getting into. I'm not going to weep for the guy.

Yeah because you know I hate anything to do with Europe. Good one.

By the way, I love how Thatcher now isn't a bully. Compare her to a guard at a Nazi concentration camp? Sure. But a bully? Oh, no, no, no.  Roll Eyes

And do me a favor: when you choose to engage me, don't attribute certain characteristics to me that are totally unrelated. I don't go off about "the librul media" so don't try to make me out to be some dumbed down chest beating conservative.

I'm going to agree with px here. Elected officials need to treat their constituents with respect no matter how obnoxious the question is (unless it targets their family life). Christie has shown no respect to anyone who questions him, he acts like a petulant child when he is told that he is wrong. That's not the attitude that an elected official should have. Anyone who questions him has the right to act the way they do, get offended, act like a dick. It might look negative on their part but they aren't there to serve the people.

It's disturbing that this kind of behavior is popular now. This shows just how awful our political discourse is at this point. I have the feeling that Christie doesn't necessarily do this because it's how his personality is. He uses this act because it's popular and it's garnered him a bunch of positive press from Real America.

Also: lol @ the idea of Christie being president. This might sound shallow but do really think that Americans would vote for a fat man to be the face of America around the world? I mean it might not be a campaign issue out in the open for the media to discuss but it would be everywhere on the interwebs.
