I am a pensioner who used to be active in the political life of this great country. I don't know what the UDL Council is or what it will do, but I shall run for it anyway. Indeed, I make pledges. They are:

1. Near total inactivity. I don't especially care about fantasyland anymore, therefore am uniquely qualified to sit on what is presumably the governing body of one of its political parties.

2. Open corruption. I say we end the hypocrisy. I will be for sale and will openly admit to it. You will be able to buy me like an Italian politician.

3. Links to the Mafia. Well, you've all known about that for a while, right? I see it not as a drawback, but as a strength.

4. Brassnecked cheek and postmodernist irony.

5. Apples.
