The PPT has a very important question for the JCP (or what's left of it that is)

WHY THE HELL CAN'T YOUR SENATOR'S STAY ACTIVE?

Thank you for your time,
NC Yankee

I think a lot of us are worried about him at this point. Not as a Senator but as a regular poster who hasn't posted in a while.

Well, I think we've assumed he won't be running for re-election... Not that there is much time left to do so anyway.

I really hope Barnes will be back soon, that's a shame he won't run for re-election. Sad

JCP Official Endorsements, December 2010
At-large Senate seats
1-2) Bacon King
1-2) Lief
3) Antonio
4) Junkie
5) Phil/Ben/Sewer

Pacific Governor
1) Oakvale

Pacific Lt. Governor
1) ArchangelZero

I counted by hand and got a 3-way tie for preference #5. I used a program and it says Phil won preference #5, but we didn't really specify any tie-breaking procedures, so *shrug*

I'd like to thank the JCP and its members for giving me their third pref endorsement. I'll make sure you won't regret it. Smiley

I would also like to thank the JCP for considering me and for awarding me a 4th preference.  Also, thank you to everyone who voted for me.

Does the Party wish to have Antonio and/or Junkie carrying the JCP name on the ballot?

I think we should have a symbol for our party.  Bgwah was thinking a star on a black background (star color likely being green).  I argued for a dark green star on a light blue background... or a light green star on a dark blue background.

What say you?

I've always like star symbols, and they're rarely used by other parties. Green is of course our party color and should be featured prominently! Grin

I don't see what we could possibly do except exchange hilarious communist quips.

The Lief4Senate campaign is prepared to declare victory. We are now crossing our fingers in the hope that Comrade Bacon King will pull through as well.

I would support the creation of a secret forum, but only if everything we talk about in there is completely made up and leaked frequently.

Well, we won twice as many seats as anyone else. I suppose we're definitely still a viable party, then. Smiley

And congratulations to Lief and BK, of course.

Did you seriously doubt it ? Tongue

Yesterday was a victory for the entire left : we got 55.7% of the vote (I've never seen a similar score since I joined Atlasia) and elected 3 Senators. If we don't kill ourselves with useless bickerings, we can grow stronger than we ever were. Wink

Hey guys,

With the recent amendment, we now get to appoint a member to the now vacated seat once held by Barnes for the remainder of his term.

Considering Lief was just elected to this seat, I'm pretty sure nobody would object to me just going ahead and appointing him to it, but I'll go ahead and wait until tomorrow in case of the small possibility that someone would object to such a move.

It may be a good idea to set some sort standard (by amending the bylaws, perhaps?) for appointing a replacement when there isn't such an obvious successor to the seat, though.

This seat could be a problem. The vacancy clause is still in doubt and thus in the eyes of some, the seat is still held by Barnes. I disgree with this interpreation and hold that it is vacant and has been for about 20 days, but I most warn that there could be a lawsuit over this.

hmm.

I say we don't.

PS, MB and others say you do (ironically they did so to save BK).

Why don't you choose which one. Tongue If you want an expulsion vote to be safe I will gladly hold the pointless excesize in ridiculem.

I stand with Fritz and PS on this issue, and not in order to "save" anyone. I don't really see the point to set such dangerous precedent (expelling a sitting Senator without a vote) with only two weeks left.

It wouldn't be setting a precedent to declare the vacancy; rather, it would be setting a new precedent not to declare the vacancy.

I'm fine with appointing Leif early if the law allows. I'll let you parlimentarians sort that out. Shouldn't take more than about, oh, 2 weeks. Tongue

As far as I know, no Senate seat has ever been declared vacant due to inactivity of its occupant without a senatorial vote.

It happened once, with DWTL.  That was perhaps done improperly.

My thinking is, Barnes's seat is vacant for for Senate procedural purposes ONLY.  Libertas's seat is truly vacant, however.  Yes, Barnes would have to be expelled in order to appoint Lief.
