Ayatollah Ali Khamanei will be dead soon (he's 71) with no obvious successor.  We all know he is the real power behind the president and the sustaining force behind the conservative Shi'ite establishment and the Islamic republic.  Once he passes on, where does everyone see Iran going?  Will it remain a pariah state?

There is a strong bench of people for the position of supreme leader. Considering the Guardian Council, Assembly of Experts and past presidents.

Ali Akbar Rafsanjani - Past President and 2005 Presidential Candidate
Taghi Mesbah-Yazdi - Shi'a cleric asscociated with the Hojjatieh group
Ahmad Jannati - Chairman of the Guardian Council
Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi - Member of Guardian Council and past head of the judiciary
Mohammad Yazdi - Former head of judiciary
Mohammad Khatami - Past President
Yousef Saanei - Grand Ayatollah
