Wallace wins the Deep South and a few states in the upper south but that's it.
There would probably be a 3rd party challenge that would attract the liberal vote, possibly McCarthy (15%). Here's a map:

  DC possibly goes 3rd party

This thing is stretched out and there's no map because you need to put a "[" before the "img]" at the beginnign of the map code.

The map worked, but you still gotta fix the first one. That thing makes it impossible to read.

GeorgiaSenator, are you obsessed with Wallace? It looks like you've opened up ten threads about him.

I see Wallace winning all or almost all of the states of the Confederacy and maybe MD or Del.

No obsession just like 3rd parties and the 1968 election. Today is my first day so I have a chance to get it out of my system.

If it's Wallace vs. Nixon, who does the anti-war left support?
There would definitely be a strong 3rd party candidate.  How much of the vote would someone like McCarthy get?
No way DC votes for Wallace and I don't think they'd like Nixon either.
In any event Nixon wins all the way but it's a bit closer than RL.

Welcome to the forum, GeorgiaSenator!

I believe that Wallace would've put up quite a fight. After all, he was the only Democrat that Nixon really feared in '72, and of course feared during the '68 general election.

Nixon-427

Wallace-85

McGovern-27

Mcgovern runs a anti war third party with Eugene Mccarthy.

Why are we under the assumption that McGovern would have ran as a third party candidate if Wallace was nominated? What's more, the fact that McGovern would have won states, too! Not that I have anything against George (I like George), but the way the Nixon campaign was fought - particularly if there are no changes to the POD; with a Wallace campaign wouldn't have manifested a such a favourable result for a third party McGovern run.

And also, why is McCarthy always touted as McGovern's automatic choice for veep? He'd fallen out of favour by 1972 - evidenced by poor results in New Hampshire and Wisconsin. Sometimes I think people here select McCarthy based on the 'Mc' alone.
