I guess it means something that Kirk has led five in a row, but I think he needs about a five or six point lead to feel safe.

Yeah, we have to wait if the Bill Clinton and Obama visits this week make a difference.

Yeah, we have to wait if the Bill Clinton and Obama visits this week make a difference.

We all know how successful Obama's visits have been for Democratic candidates.

Polling here has been remarkably consistent over the last few weeks. I'm still very nervous about where all those undecideds will fall. It is Illinois, after all.

In Illinois, an Obama visit would help, mostly in Chicago when Giannoulias needs a high turnout.

Do we? I don't. Could you explain how successful his visits have been? Please back up this common knowledge with data. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if, somehow, either Kirk or Giannoulias won the special, but the other candidate won the regular election? Wink

I actually voted Kirk for the 6-year term......and the Green guy, Jones, for the unexpired term.....just for the hell of it. lol

Since the the names on the ballot are the same, polls assume that voters will cast the same vote in both elections. It is entirely possible that they are different if voters only vote in the first race (for the full term).

The polls are almost a little too consistent in this race.

Mayor Daley goes out with a bang and secures a Giannoulias victory.

Giannoulias is between 40% and 41% in every single latest poll (Rasmussen, Fox, PPP, Tribune, Mason-Dixon). At the same time Kirk is either at 43% or 44% in those polls. I don't think I've ever seen this kind of consistency in polling.
