I say yes! "Speaking truth to power", as Jeff Kuhner [primary fill in for Michael Savage & Washington Times Columnist] always says is worth loosing childhood friends over. I have been grinning and bearing and desperately trying to not lash out at several of my old childhood friends every time they parrot some stupid talking point from the Leftist media attacking and spewing the flavor of the day anti Conservative slander. And for the most part I have been silent. But after getting an angry email from one of my oldest childhood friends, in fact the rare ones that you learned about life with together, I decided to change the venue.  I simply posted a link to an interview on my facebook page of an interview of Rahm Emanuel in Chicago in where a Patriot Conservative Talk Host and activist William J Kelly (Kelly's Truth Squad) was threatened by Channel 2's Jay Levine in Chicago. It's on youtube if you want to see it. In the video William Kelly was assaulted and since this event the Chicago police have issued an arrest warrant for Levine.
Well after putting in the link, which is still there Todd Gerard writes "What the Hell happened to you? You turned into a Rush-Beck Kool-Aide drinker right wing fascist" Then he proceeded to de- friend me and said to have a nice life!  Well those are the breaks. I put the whole thing up on my wall and my response was "
Thanks Todd Gerard for de friending me because I don't believe the media, don't like Socialism, obama or Dictatorships and like talk radio. You were always a grouch anyway. You have a great life too.
Since then I have had a flood of friends take my side and a few other Liberals try and bait me into further time consuming friendship busting posts.  My conclusion is to stand by your convictions and shed your friends list of brain washed Leftists and keep posting anything that exposes the rotting pile of creeping totalitarianism.  NEWSFLASH Her we go again! This just in.

Honestly, I don't care enough about simple matters of ideology to make enemies over it. I try my hardest to avoid talking politics with friends.

Politics is not worth losing friends over. Political situations are transitory; they come and go and come again, but friends, especially good ones, are not. If you can't talk about politics without taking things personally and being rude, it's better to just not do it. Facebook, most certainly, is not the place to do it, for any multitude of reasons. It's not like you'll accomplish anything other than getting people angry.

You make sense but when and if attacked for a non partisan posting of a legitimate story of a cop hating Liberal reporter [I did not phrase it like that in the post] who threatens an innocent reporter simply doing his job you just have to fire back and stand on principles. That's my opinion anyway. The bottom line is we have both sides to base our opinions on. The Mainstream media, Talk radio and elsewhere. They base everything they say from the left slanted press. So to them we look either insane or alien like. It's as though we are from another era or planet. That is why arguing with Lefties is a dead end. For the most part, I am a newbie so can't post the William J Kelly interview link but if someone else could that would be terrific.

I wish I could have avoided it but I simply couldn't and have little regret.

The media is to fault for all of this division and friction among friends and the races. They prey on vulnerable people & groups and plant their poisonous propaganda seeds in some very smart people who are simply dooped hence turning them into programmed parrots for the Democrats. The press needs to be completely replaced and held to much higher standards.

Meh, I talk about politics on places like this forum so I don't have to get into arguments with friends in real life. Not worth losing a good friend over.

If you can't talk about politics without taking things personally and being rude, it's
perhaps the reason why you have no friends.

As I mentioned before I do not ever bring it up. It finds its way to me and I am not going to simply lay down like a doormat and be abused. If people care more about their childhood friends than they do for standing on Principal and defending themselves that is their right. In my book that is not the action of a noble man and does nothing to advance our cause nor to fight the culture of death that is known as Liberalism. I am sure if attacked publically for your Conservatism you would take up arms in defense too.

Michael Savage is a Patriot and has the same qualities as most of our Founders and could have easily have been one if he lived in that era. Savage better represents honest, hard working God fearing Americans better than most out there and we are lucky to have him.
I disagree with you 100% and would be willing to bet like most Liberals you never hear our side and do not even listen to Conservative Talk Radio. Hence we have all sides to decide what is correct, you have one side. The Left! The evil Socialist, America hating Left. In addition at the end of the day it isn't even about the hosts anyway. It's about the mission, the message and articulating the truth so we have the facts and knowledge to fight back the Pimps of propaganda in the Press and educate the masses of brainwashed Dem voters..

Could just be someone unfamiliar with the forum personalities, though it is nevertheless notable for its sheer wrongness.

No, he is just another narcissistic right-wing pseudo-intellectual with a huge mean streak who has sold out for filthy lucre, a political cutthroat who would have never fit in among the Founding Fathers who were too civilized for such stuff.  Can you imagine him sacrificing his luxuries for a principle?

As if it had authority? I have far more use for the Federalist Papers than I have for off-the-cuff, unpolished mean-spirited rhetoric.

Have you ever recognized that the liberal Democrats  want to preserve what is best in America and change what is faulty for something better? The problem with the right-wing (regrettably, conservatism with its conscience and caution is largely dormant if not dead)
Republicans is that they want to preserve and promote what is worst in America -- a system that works only for a few.

Facts and knowledge are the short suit of the Hard Right. You right-wingers are the sorts who would establish the sort of economic order that begs for revolutionary change from the Extreme Left.

If you listen to his radio show, this is verbatim what you’ll hear:

50% commercial breaks

45% “I’m great and underappreciated and my book is going to save America, but I need your help to spread the word, so please buy my book.”

4% “Obama is not worried about being reelected because he plans to tear up the constitution and form an open dictatorship, in which case there won’t be a 2012 election….the economic collapse of 2008 was scripted and brought about in order to bring Obama to power...and I have the facts to back it up...but you'll have to buy my book to find out.  But you need this vital info before Nov 2nd, so please buy now!”

Just a kind of different perspective here, but I would also argue that Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks are inherently progressive in nature. My theory is based on the fact that a social network tries to replicate a traditional social network (like the ones we have in town, churches, schools, soccer clubs, etc.), but rather than allowing it to grow organically, the platform (aka the government) itself leverages all of peoples' information according to its own ends.

Because of this, I think that the majority of social network users are more likely to be Left in their thinking. Thus, my guess is that you're more likely to reconnect with old school buddies and friends who are "left" in their socio-political ideologies. Thus, if you're conservative in your thinking, it's not a bad idea to go into the whole networking experience with this in mind.
