First Secretary of the Polish United Workers' Party/Chairman of the Countil of State/General of the Army/Commander-in-Chief of the People's Army of Poland/Soon-to-be-President: Wojciech Jaruzelski. Alive at age of 87, living a quiet (he'd wish so) retirement.

The mayor of your city / leader of your local municipality (if exists)[/quote]Walter Wallmann.
The head of your county / metro city council (if exists)
The governor or premier of your state or province (if exists)
The head of government of your country

Walter Wallmann, who went on to a brief stint in Helmut Kohl's cabinet and a single term as state premier. Enjoying alcoholic retirement for the past twenty years. (Or maybe he dried out at some point... his like for a wee dram or three was as wellknown as Charlie Kennedy's, back in the day).

n/a (there was such a thing as the Umlandverband Frankfurt, but though it actually had a directly elected council unlike its modern successor body, it had no real leader and just as little real power as the modern version. Which also has saner boundaries.)

Holger Börner. Spinning in his grave at the news of his SPD being outpolled by the Greens. Back in his days as a chippy he'd have solved that issue with a two-by-four.

Helmut Schmidt. Being fawned over for his occasional self-important interviews and proudly defying this newest modern fad of smoking bans.

N/A on next category.

Governor:

Mostly I associate him with Amtrak. He was on the board recently and pushing for rail.

President:

The mayor of your city / leader of your local municipality: André Pelletier. He ran for the Provincial Assembly (National Assembly) in 1994 for PQ (independantist) and won. Reelected in 1998, retired in 2003. Since then, he is in the Montreal area and appears in the local media to complain about the current City Council of Val-d'Or. I met him in a restaurant a few years ago.
The head of your county / metro city council (if exists): I don't know, but Pelletier was the vice-prefect. So, the prefect was the mayor of some rural town in the area.
The governor or premier of your state or province (if exists): Robert Bourassa, Liberal. Resigned in 1994. Died in 1996.
The head of government of your country: Brian Mulroney. See teddy description.
