Narbonne
Chalon-sur-Saône
Montpellier

(yeah, better pile on this one early... this fake "romanity" designed by Georges Frêche is really awful... and this anti-environmental and vulgar city is distasteful... as for me !)
(I'll try again Saint-Etienne later)
(Cholet... well, history of textile was interesting and electoral history too)

Versaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaailles!
Chôlet

Oh and, I'll change Chalon, I just reminded that during the last years this city is one of the French cities which try to do the best in term of environment policies, and really develop 'Green Building', then this one will wait a bit for me.

My last one will be:

Bourges. Well, maybe a nice cathedral, maybe a nice part of the city made of channels and small gardens, a music festival which wouldn't be that bad, maybe a pleasant city to live, but, well, it remains a city from The Centre Tongue.

Also I get the possible reasons one would get rid of Languedocienne cities, but I have something for Languedoc, and if some parts of their cities can be awful, some other parts can be quite beautiful. Too bad Sète isn't here...

And, well, about Montpellier, Antigone, the 'Neo-Roman' district which is the big mark of Frêche on the city, is awful, empty, cold, and pretentious, but, beside this, really, this city is really pleasant architecturally, moreover, still beside this, it is one of the rare cities in France which succeeded to make live together modern and older architecture quite well, aside from the fact that economically it seems to be not so bad, the sun, and the beaches accessible by city's public transportation, tramway, n'en j'tez plus! Tongue.

Hey, I can't understand the vote for Montpellier. I was there and this city is great Better than Paris, Lyon Marseilles or the Elsaß-Cities. It is like a German University city, only with a Mediterranean touch.

Tramway to the seaside... yes, all the "bobo" behaviour (the nature at your entire disposal, behind a fake greenery) translated in a vulgar region, with a tradition of fraud (believe me, that's not just an image).

And with a "big" mayor, who is (was) well considered, just because many things are "public": but urbanistic oddities, artificial lotissements, buildings in areas where there was fragile ecosystems and/or which can be invaded by high waters,..., are bad even if they are public.

Economy isn't so bad, but not employment... It's just heliotropism: more doctors than needed, many not-so-old retirees, who vote FN or Frêche, etc. And many young people who think they can find work, but who are just used in hotels, restaurants, small retailing and under some contracts by "friendly" municipalities Wink

Montpellier is all of this, but without great past like Nîmes or even Marseille.

But, of course, that's just what I think Wink

No, no, I didn't say tramway was going to the seaside (at least not the last time I've been), only buses. Well, I haven't said it was a great city for ecology personally, though, I wonder if it's a lot worse than most of other French cities, especially when we look at the development of things like lotissements and everything that goes with it.

The only vulgarity we can find in this region is in places like La Grande Motte, or Le Cap d'Agde, but actually not in a city like Montpellier, and even Béziers or Narbonne, at least as I said above not a lot more than in other random French cities. The vulgarity of some sort of modern things is more the touch of an epoch than the touch of a region, in Languedoc it is mainly present on the seaside and due to the fact that this one has been a cheap spot for vacations on which the profitability of tourism has been the 1st criteria which directed the development of its urbanism. Then well, for heliotropism, eh, not surprising if a lot of jobs depend on what became the main activity of a region...

Ah, and in term of ecology, the fact that the center of the city of Montpellier is shut to cars, is quite pleasant.

The adoration for Montpellier can sometimes be annoying but, well, it also has some interest...

Saint-Etienne
Mulhouse
Evreux

(Le Mans, Grenoble, Béziers, Perpignan, Poitiers are not far away on my to-do list, and I don't forget Narbonne...)

Nice Maison de le Culture.

And yeah, this pic of Montpellier shows quite well how the Antigone stuff is awful. But Montpellier deserves better than that!

First, when you arrive by train, when you go out of the station by the main door you arrive on the Rue de Maguelone, a pretty pleasant one, here with the Tramway:

That Rue de Maguelone links the SNCF station to the Place de la Comédie which is the biggest and most famous square of the city:

Then, you have also the Porte du Peyrou (nicest entry in the center of the city):

And not far from this gate you have a nice aqueduc:

Ok, I like this city. Grin

Vote:

Chôlet!
Colmar (yeah, Colmar over Mulhouse indeed Tongue)

and hmm, why not Evreux, yeah, long time I look at that one, but didn't want to touch it so far, one more cathedral, a not so bad situation in Normandie, but yeah:

Evreux
