So, how 'bout it, boys and girls?

And this makes four threads and counting.  I think Koran Burning Day ought to get its own child board under General Discussion.  Wink

No. I'll be in an airplane... Actually, I'm gonna miss Saturday completely because by the time I land in Sydney, it's going to be Sunday since I'm leaving 7PM Friday.

Koran is an acceptable transcription. Qu'ran is not.

No.  It's Qur'an.  The glottal stop is between the ray and the ya, and not between the qaaf and the ray (the first vowel is implied and doesn't actually appear in the arabic word), although you're right that the Q is a better way to transliterate the qaaf, whereas the kaaf is better transliterated as K.  And in fact I'd originally written "Burn a Koran (Qur'an, Cor'an, whatever) Day" as the title.  Then I thought, no that's distracting.  So I went with Koran.  (The transliteration of arabic characters into English deserves its own thread and is far beyond the scope of what I'm trying to do here.  And even the preceding little speechlet perhaps demonstrates that point.  While we're at it, Al-Qur'an is an even better transliteration, but I digress.)

However you choose to write it (and there's really no perfect way in any of the languages of the indo-European language family), I'm glad you're not burning one.  Smiley

Oh, on Facebook, antis 'Burn a Koran Day' lead so far:

Burn a Koran Day group

Protest group

But the pros have a significant number. 1st time I do a facebook comparison on something, for what it's worth, indeed.

Anyhow, the guy opened a door, and beyond the fact to burn a Koran, maybe the guy found a sense to this day, an 'Anti-Muslim Day', or something like that...

I don't do facebook either, but the International Burn A Koran Day facebook website popped up in a google search I did the day I made this thread.  It's hilarious.  For example:

Vijay Narapareddy (from Hyderabad) says:  I WILL KILL ALL MUSLIM

Mohammed Ashad (also from Hyderabad) replies:  No you won't.  You're such a wimp.

I guess I have an irreverent sense of humor, but it's hard to take those posts seriously.  It seems to have calmed down a bit since Wednesday, but it's still pretty entertaining.  You have to get past the jarring grammar and spelling etiquette.  (e.g., OMG U r such a twat cuz you cum on here and say stf like comparing paster jones to hitler.)

Apparently Islamophobia is a huge thing in India.  A quarter of such trolls are always Indian.

My only Koran is a sadly dogeared and beaten 4-year-old paperback copy.  Is there a repectful way to retire a Koran?  (In its condition I wouldn't get a cent for it from a used book store.)

Book burning reminds me of the Nazis. Yes, I know, I lose invoking that term.  So be it.

No, we suck 24-ounce margaritas from TGI Fridays (2100 Calories), and Grande vanilla bean frappuccinos from Starbucks (1750 Calories) and 32-ounce milkshakes from Sonic (2975 Calories).  If we sucked only ba'als we'd have fewer problems.

And, by the way, Happy International Koran Burning Day!  Smiley

This burning the Koran thing really makes me wish God was a little more hands on.  It would be so satisfying to see a God-directed lightning bolt come down and incinerate this bastard pastor in front of his read-to-burn pile of Korans.  It would also be ironic.

I don't see the problem with torching the Koran, but let's burn the Bible too and every other holy book just to remind people that almost ALL religions are evil.

I imagine the burning of a Koran is far more offensive to a Muslim than a burned Bible to a Christian, since the Koran is the actual word of God, not the word inspired by God.

The problem of intervention have already been examined.  Apparently you don't watch Futurama.
