Just leave all the socialists behind. They may be rich, but we'll steal their businesses away from them when they set tax rates back at 70%. Wink

Eh, about the same. Though I dislike losing the coast on the other side - that's valuable for shipping. There would be advantages and disadvantages.

What would happened if this happened? Chances are the country would become more conservative, but would eventually drift towards the left. Nevada, New Mexico, Florida, and Ohio would become Democratic strongholds, balancing out the current system. Republicans would still carry areas by a huge margin.

But it would, to an extent, moderate.

It would also screw up the country a lot. Leave it as it is. If this happened we'd keep cutting the country until we had The United State of Idaho.

Oh, and man would I ever miss the chowder.

Well, since the Democrats would have lost a good deal of their power, it would leave a gap that could be met by another political party. Not necessarily mine, but the loss of power would be staggering to the Democrats.

Well, considering that the area represented there isn't all that far over 50% of the population, if it is, I think the "second America" Democratic party would do quite well. I'm sorry, but I don't see the Libertarian Party doing much better in this case. Ex-Democrats would be less likely to switch over to the Libertarians than ex-Republicans would in the other America.

Not voting for a bad president doesn't make one a socialist.

And I would prefer not to live in that country.

I hope you enjoy losing your trade with the Pacific, though. Smiley

The Pacific coast is really irrelevant due to the Panama Canal.

it'd be like a gazillion times worse.  what the hell is wrong with you man?

the whole point of being a Republican is Nationalism?  The GOP went to war, literal war, against a bunch of separatist democrats in the early days of the party's existence just over this kind of bullsh**t.  We are a republic, not an empire, our nation ends at the seas, but not before that.  United we stand.

Well as a Canadian who lives in this socialist infested counry I'd have to say I'd love to live in most any state....it's always better than Canada!

 But while were on it....

Keep New York because it has Wall Street
Philadelphia because of the history and the Liberty Bell etc.
D.C. because it has the capital infrastructure
N.H. because it kicks ass and only voted GOP because of Senator Flip Flop's proximity...it's still a non-socialist state....
and perhaps Southern California since it isn't really hard core Dem...

Though I saw this as a fun topic I'd have to agree....your nation should strech sea to sea....border to border...united!

If you guys think you have problems come live up here with Quebec...actually I love Quebec despite some political differences...still a beautiful place and a great place to party...you get my drift though!

Christopher, just out of interest, which part of NS do you live in?
It's a very nice part of the world. Been to Halifax, Dartmouth & Lunenburg.
Peggy's Cove was perhaps my favourite place.

I currently attend school at Saint Mary's University which is in downtown Halifax more or less....I am originally from the New Glasgow area which is on the Northumberland shore...

Lunenburg is very nice....Cape Breton Island is also very nice!

 Thanks for asking!

Obviously we wouldn't want any place that's 55% "socialist," but 45% would be paradise.

As partisan as everyone would like to paint the country, the differences are not that significant.

In a democracy, the 45% is irrelevant.
