Given the interest in the Great depression thread I think I will so post these. Taken by the Royal Photographer to the Tsar in the 1900s, the quality isn't quite as good as in the Great Depression photos (which were some of the best photos I have ever seen) but I think there will be sufficient interest:

I find it interesting how much buildings were still being made out of wood here...

Not to me.

Though I imagine it is one of those things I've read many times in books about the period but didn't really set it. History, especially when compared to the realities of the present day versus the realities of then (whenever then is), has a tendency to feel slightly unreal - seeing something like these clarifies it (and reveals things that books tend to leave out).

As I said in the other thread, these are cool, since the usual grainy black and white photos don't make what's depicted seem "real."
