Without changing RL past Presidents, make a list of alternate Vice Presidents.  Not sure if this has been done or not.

How is Bush becoming President without not being VP under Reagan? This nomination saved his career, as between losing primaries and his selection he was considered finished.

The point of this thread is to have the same Presidents but different Vice-Presidents. I did that. If you want a logical answer, Bush was either appointed to Secretary of State or Defense, or was elected to the Senate in 1982. I could also say that he was elected Governor of Texas in 1988. From what I've seen of Bush's political career, if he hadn't been chosen for Vice-President, he would have been a very qualified selection for Secretary of State (not that Reagan would've chosen him) because he had served as Ambassador to the UN, Envoy to China, DCI, and had been a member (I think Head) of the Council on Foreign Relations.
