Herbert Clark Hoover managed to live 31 years after leaving the presidency. Carter is pretty close to that, sometime in 2012 he will beat it. Can he do it?

It's interesting how the most historically screwed Presidents lived the longest, while Lincoln and FDR didn't even make it out of office.

I'd consider it their consolation for being unmemorable/unlikable throughout history.

Carter left an office at age of 56. That's pretty young age for a former President.

Ford, although he was 63 at that point, due to his longevity, was once pretty close to Hoover.

Clinton was 54, I believe, when became "former". So if he'll enjoy Hoover/Ford/Reagan longevity (90+) he may become a record-holder.

Btw, that's pretty useful source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Presidents_of_the_United_States

I think he will beat Hoover. Carter looks healthy enough to live over age 90, so beating Hoover shouldn't be that hard for him considering he only needs to live another 2 years.
