Assuming that Sarah Palin wins the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, who should she pick as a VP? I would think one of the three is almost certain -

*Newt Gingrich (Mr. Establishment)
*Rick Santorum (pretty much a carbon copy of Gingrich)
*Scott Brown (Mr. Tea Party)

She'd have to balance the ticket with someone seen as a moderate - but not too moderate, as it would piss off the conservative base.  Possibly Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie.  Marco Rubio might also be a good choice, if he wins.

I thought the tea party hated Scott Brown since he became Mr. Moderate.

Three possibilities:

"Balance the Ticket" option- Dennis Kucinich

"Stealing Ideas" option- Joe Biden

"Just Plain Hilarious" option- Levi Johnston

They don't really hate him, but they're not as energized as they once were for him.

For the question, I'd say Romney or Thune. Maybe Daniels.

Gah.

Some ideological twin...Ann Coulter.

If Palin is nominated it's because the GOP is intent on running a joke candidate, so why bother balancing the ticket?

Yeah if McCain got scared out of selecting some of his top VP choices because the candidates were pro-choice, no way that Sarah Palin is going to select Scott Brown

If by some miracle Palin won the nomination, her pick should be a very experienced and very competent Senator.

Her best choices are:
Kay Baily Huchinson
Lamar Alexander
Orrin Hatch
or
Gov Jeb Bush

Hutchison-Pro-abortion. A lot of pro-lifers won't vote.
Alexander-Good pick, but a little on the old side.
Hatch-Mormon
Bush-Toxic due to his last name

Orrin Hatch would be 77-78 in 2012.

Lamar Alexander, similarly, a healthy looking man and good Senator, would be 72.

Maybe Scott Brown. There really aren't going to be any more abortion votes in congress for some time so he can always get off the hook there.

Uh, yeah, I forgot to mention Hatch's age as well. Our oldest VP (Alben Barkley) was 75 when he left office, I believe.

He needs to flip-flop in advance, though, and I don't see that happening.

Palin is probably the only one at the top of the ticket who could get away with picking a non pro-lifer.

I'll guess Rudy Guiliani or Rick Perry as the next VP.

Except one of the ways she'd win the nomination is by going after Romney's unpredictable views on abortion and flipping.  So she'd look hypocritical to then go with someone who is pro-choice.  Which is not to say she's above being hypocritical.  She'd be anonymous if not for McCain's hypocrisy in picking her.
