RIP

Malloy will be a fantastic candidate against Foley, less personal money to throw at the race, but it will help with the contrast all the better.

I'm fully aboard the Malloy train

Poor Ned.  I guess he can give it the old Dino Rossi college try in 2 years.

a) I make about 1/100th of what he does, so if you want to send me money?

b) 2 years is a lifetime. If he challenges Lieberman in 2012, he'll probably just help  reelect him by splitting the anti--Lieberman vote

Actually Lieberman is beyond done. I'd be surprised if even he is dumb enough to run in the Democratic primary again. If Lamont wins the Dem primary in 2012 he will be the next senator from CT. Remember Obama has a higher approval rating among CT Republicans than Lieberman does among Democrats!

I think Lamont will hang it up after this one. This was an embarrassingly huge loss. Somebody else will challenge Lieberman if the egomaniac decides to run again in 2012.

For information, the last Quinnipiac poll (08/03-08) had Lamont leader by 3...  http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/other/2010_connecticut_primary.html

Chris Murphy is pretty much the consensus choice for the Dems in 2012. I don't think I've heard any other suggestions (Bysiewicz is obviously interested, but I think she killed her chances with the whole Attorney General debacle).

Glad to see Connecticut Democrats voted for a real nominee. Hopefully, Lamont will get the message and just go away after this.

And if Murphy somehow manages to lose re-election in his D+2 district?

Ned is certain to retire. 2006 was embarrassing enough. I don't think he'll challenge Joe in 2012. Joe will probably run as a Republican anyway.

Was the Attorney General debacle really that bad for her image? I thought it was more of a minor setback.

It was a pretty big setback. The Hartford Courant covered the story extensively for about a month, and it made her look rather desperately ambitious. (She's 49, and if she doesn't start running for bigger offices soon, she'll fade away quickly. The Democratic benches in CT are pretty full.) She might be able to win back her seat as Secretary of State in 2014 if Denise Merrill loses in November, but she won't be the party's first choice for Senate in 2012 or Governor in 2014 if Tom Foley wins.

I expect Lieberman to run, and probably try for the Democratic nomination, but lose miserably, and then just run as an Independent and hopefully lose.  That man needs lose.
