Effing awesome. Daydream Nation is a truly brilliant album, and so is EVOL. Sister hasn't really grown on me much though.
Daydream Nation is a truly brilliant album, so is Sister, so is Dirty (though different, perhaps the most accessible), so is Washing Machine, so is A Thousand Leaves.

Some of my alltime heroes.

The first track sounded awfully like a Pavement cover band... but the rest is more original. Thumbs up.

I think a lot of people here will like this band: http://www.myspace.com/hahatonka

Saw them open for Rocky Votolato. Not really my thing but the people here who don't mind stuff with a heavy country element probably will like them.
'twas decent.

I wouldn't see him at the kind of ticket prices he's able to demand.

Heh. At least he doesn't do these huge monstergigs.

Saw these guys open for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion yesterday.

http://www.myspace.com/mamarosin

Live, they were like nothing I'd ever heard but I would have known what to label the style - "Cajunpunk". (Listening to the stuff on here right now, and the first track anyhow sounds a lot less punk-y than they did live.)

Lol. Original and what, exactly? Adaptation? Parody? Tribute?

No. That makes little sense given the relative size and the relation of the hillbilly (as it was until not long before then) and cajun markets.

Fell in love with these song lyrics. (Song is not that great... suppose it's good by Electropunk standards.) "Bilder mit Katze" by Frittenbude.
Felt the need to try my hands at translating.

It was a warm night
You remember it
Like it was yesterday
You were a little high
And had been drinking before
Vodka with your friends
You roamed through the night
Snuck in at nine
You were the biggest fans of Torsun and the boys
Stood in the front row, knew really all the songs
And the opening band was good too
But what you liked even more
Was that one girl
She was special, she had style

You talked to her, you said "Hey Cat
I've never seen you before"
"Hey Tomcat I'm here on account of Bratze"
She thought the lyrics were great and the two guys were funny
You wanted to buy her a drink but only had a fifty
That was supposed to last you through the next twenty days
You got her a drink
But she said "Shame.
I'd so love to have that shirt that Lars is selling over there
The black and yellow one, the pretty Audiolith shirt"
But she said she was broke
Had spent her last money
To buy a ticket for today
You bought it for her you were her hero
Later you danced together til she went home
And you stayed behind with the guys, hanging out on the couch

[twice]
You buy the woman you love
A shirt by Audiolith
Which she wears all the time
Because there's nothing out there
Like that shirt by Audiolith
With the pretty large letters

Right the next morning
You were very nervous
You called her and almost put the phone right down
Because her father was on the line
But he was very friendly
Then you two talked for a long time
And noticed there's a lot of stuff
That you have in common
You soon met for a date
You were a couple straight away
And both open for everything
You went to every party and to a lot of shows
Protests, festivals, life was totally great

As long as it's Audiolith, you took in everything
And she always wore that shirt, she looked so great in it
You rode by train a lot
There was always a lot of stuff happening
Once you met Frittenbude on the local train
They invited you, took you to their gig
You danced through the night, didn't go home at all
So it went for a few years
You loved each other a lot
And were injured all the more when suddenly nothing was right anymore
And even the favorite shirt
Was suddenly gone
There were a lot of tears
Your love was like two swans or at least something like that
Cause you were so badly hurt
You didn't want to see her at all anymore
You stayed behind
And she had to go

[female voice, spoken]
"Hi Tomcat it's me
Yeah well, you never answer the phone
I was just going to tell you I'm going to move to Berlin, going to fashion school
Already found a flat at the Conti
Maybe we'll hear from each other, bye"

[twice]
The shirt by Audiolith
Was like the woman you loved
Suddenly gone and you
Alone at home all that remained
For you were all those Audiolith songs
And pictures with Cat

Years passed
You got ever older
Girls came, stayed, left, flowers wilted
You saved some money, bought a new couch
Took the old one apart and what did you find
In its deepest recess
You didn't believe it
There's this shirt
That one shirt by Audiolith
You think back to the times of your youth
Those days were great, just the two of you and the music

You turn on the pc
You enter her name
Found her right away in some social network how can it be
Is that really her? No?
You're suddenly very confused
You take a picture of the shirt not of you
And send it to her

Audiolith is a Hamburg-based indie label. All the bands namedropped (including themselves) are on that label, and Lars is the guy who runs it. There's a logical flaw though - sounds like quite a few years have passed since, and they were still in their teens when they were together. Her giving him a landline phone number would also date their getting together back into the nineties - when neither Audiolith nor any of the bands namedropped existed yet. Ahem. But maybe that's intentional.

Hauptsache Audiolith, habt alles abgefeiert

That is a lot of lyrics. Just looking at them I'd guess the song must be 12 minutes long. Tongue
About 4:40. Extended instrumental parts are so not electropunk.

Done well enough if you like that sort of thing. So what do you, specifically, think about the lyrics above?

Rest in Peace Earl Scruggs (Cleveland County NC 1924 - Nashville TN 2012)

Yeah, umpteen threads on some sports announcer I never heard of inspired me to look over wikipedia's list of notable deaths to see if I could find any actually notable deaths that had escaped me. And sure enough... I didn't even know McCain had been still alive.

They were amazing! They played almost 50 songs!
A friend of mine will be going when they come to Germany later in the summer, so I'll pass this bit of news on as an encouragement. Smiley
