This thread needs some Dudefest:

My musical tastes consist of punk, indie and hardcore (and emo but that's kind of redundant since all emo falls into at least one of the three preceding categories.)

Would you have ever guessed that one of the vocalists in this band is a girl?

My mind was totally blown upon discovering that Rites of Spring live footage exists on YouTube:

When metal bands play live, do they usually wear the shirts of bands that sound the exact opposite of their own band?
That is the new trend it seems. If you're in a pop punk band, you wear a grindcore band's shirt. If you're in a metalcore band, you wear a Smiths or some 90s indie rock band's shirt. If you're in a soft and poppy indie rock band, you wear the shirt of some hardcore emo band. If you're in a such an emo band, you wear a pop punk band's shirt.

I'm not talking about metal bands though, I'm asking if they do it too.

Anyone else listened to the new Superchunk? I got the vinyl*, great album, probably my favorite of 2010 so far.
*I'm very old fashioned and do not listen to albums before they are released.

I saw Ra Ra Riot in Brooklyn on Friday night. Great band... and the cellist has to be one of the hottest women I've ever seen in person.
Do you like The Hated? I think you said you liked Husker Du, so you probably would.

So anyone who likes Pavement, what do you think of these guys?

I saw them last night with The Thermals. I didn't quite think Pavement when seeing them but just listen to them now, wow.

I did enjoy them more live though. The Thermals are a tough act to open for but they clearly held their own.

I think a lot of people here will like this band:
http://www.myspace.com/hahatonka
Saw them open for Rocky Votolato. Not really my thing but the people here who don't mind stuff with a heavy country element probably will like them.

Actually buying tickets for specific seats is such a foreign idea to me I have a tough time wrapping my mind around it. Never done it, ever.

OMG SUPERCHUNK IS PLAYING MINNEAPOLIS!
http://www.first-avenue.com/event/2010/12/893-current-city-pages-present-superchunk
And I just found about it a week earlier! Good thing it wasn't sold out yet. Most expensive ticket I ever bought, but well worth it. I'm even leaving work early for this!
This is probably the first show with 40something musicians I'm going to.

I feel like I'm 10 years old again and it's Christmas Eve.
I've already drank some Loko to prepare. The show will involve even more amazing drinking of course. THIS. IS. GOING. TO. RULE.

I think after listening to some of that stuff I can honestly say black metal is my least favorite genre ever.

Hmm. This may be helpful
Very much so.
Kinda confused as to why Progressive Metal is so isolated.
They also don't include Mastodon as an example of Progressive Metal.
I actually kind of like Mastadon for this:

They're included as influences, just like hard rock, psychedelic, blues rock, grunge etc. And when I clicked on post-rock, I had another eargasm because Good Morning Captain was there. Bliss.
LOL. That is sooooooooooooooooooooo not metal. It's not even really post-rock either for that matter.

Death Cab for Cutie
Bob Dylan
Weezer
The Smashing Pumpkins
Modest Mouse
Fall Out Boy

Does anyone know if Bob Dylan's early stuff was ever repressed on vinyl? I'd like to get some of his albums in versions that haven't been sitting in someone's basement for over four decades.
