He leads against Hayworth. That's surprising.

How? Hayworth has the intelligence of a fly, so in a somewhat-sane state like AZ, a retard would hopefully trail.

I'm surprised the OP was smart enough to include the right matchup this time.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure that I agree with your characterization of Arizona.

It may be fascist on the sides, but it isn't - yet - entirely batsh**t insane like Oklahoma or Alabama.

Unfortunately McCain now leads Hayworth by 20 points in the primary race. Looks like safe R unless Hayworth makes a big comeback in the next 3 weeks.

I'd have to at least agree with the latter, Jmfcst. The guy has turned his back on being a leader on immigration reform to reincarnate himself as Joe Arpaio for reelection.

Come to think of it, I guess Jan Brewer isn't the only GOP incumbent in Arizona who clearly benefits from passing a draconian "show us your papers" law and then defending it from the inevitable national firestorm. It sure works to nullify a major historical weakness McCain would have worth hardliners in a primary race. While he obviously isn't part of the state leg, I'm sure his organization and allies there were all over this bill.

Like I've said before, never trust any anti-immigration (or anti-gay rights) measure being pushed by politicians facing a tough race.
