Leave it alone.  We have plenty of good ideas on here which is good for reference material.

Well, we're basically discussing the same thing in all three forums.

That is going to happen following an election.

If it bothers you Philip, just visit one forum for a while (like me).  Smiley

But how do you think things will change long term? There's nothing left to discuss except the results.

Oh well Smiley

Rename it and let it take the 2000 election results board.  2000 should now be filed under past elections.  A new 2008 board should be started.

We should merge all the 2004 forums now.

It should be archived.  This provides valuable insight to public opinion at the time of the election.  It have definite historic value.

Perhaps Dave could create an "Archived Election" category on/near the bottom and put this and the 2004 Campaign forum under it.

Perhaps 2000 Results could go under a "Older Elections" category.

A good idea. Old forums/posts should be archived not deleted.

There has been a somewhat natural organization of the "Presidental Elections" set of boards ove the last year. Loosely it looked like:

Past
Just Past
Next
Future/Fiction

As the election went into full swing this summer, "Next (2004)" was split into two boards to deal with mechanics (polls, evs, external factors), and issues from the campaigns. As the election became just past an new past-viewing board was opened.

That leaves the question of what to do with the old "just past (2000)" board, and when to look at the next election.

The first logical structure would be to move the "2000 results" board into the board with general past presidential elections. Already there have been questions related to 2000 on that board, and it makes sense to consolidate all of them there.

The next logical move is to open a 2008 board like the 2004 presidential election board that exists today. We may think that it is wise to wait, but let's face it, 2008 is exactly what is already being discussed, here and everywhere else. Until it's created, the speculation on 2008 will wander homeless between the results of 2004, past presidencies and "what-if" boards.

So what then to do with the two existing 2004 threads that chronicled our debates over the last year? I like the idea of an archive. Because they were split in mid-season, I would consolidate them into a single board to tie it back together. I would (perhaps heretically) lock this consolidated board after the date when the electors choose the next President and it is presented to Congress. It is a valuable historical resource, particulrly to compare thoughts as 2008 gets closer. After that time further discussion of the 2004 election should go to the 2004 results board which now exists.

Bump.

Note to the moderator: There are a lot of 2008 threads popping up here. Don't these homeless waifs deserve a board of their own?

2008 speculation is well underway. Any thoughts from the Moderator?

We need a 2008 forum set up now and the threads about 2008 moved there.  I would hope we keep the 2004 forums open for the people who continue to live in the past.

My final condition has been met. Any word from Moderator Vorlon on how to proceed with the old board structure?

There has been a somewhat natural organization of the "Presidental Elections" set of boards ove the last year. Loosely it looked like:

Past
Just Past
Next
Future/Fiction

As the election went into full swing this summer, "Next (2004)" was split into two boards to deal with mechanics (polls, evs, external factors), and issues from the campaigns. As the election became just past an new past-viewing board was opened.

That leaves the question of what to do with the old "just past (2000)" board, and when to look at the next election.

Because they were split in mid-season, I would consolidate them into a single board to tie it back together. I would (perhaps heretically) lock this consolidated board after the date when the electors choose the next President and it is presented to Congress. It is a valuable historical resource, particularly to compare thoughts as 2008 gets closer. After that time further discussion of the 2004 election should go to the 2004 results board which now exists.
