I'm not a big Chafee fan, and this certainly doesn't help matters. So much for me supporting either New England independent, that is unless Cahill can regain some momentum.

Look, this is bad not just because he criticized Schilling but because he accused like one of the greatest sport moments in Rhode Island history of being fraudulent...hating the player isn't as bad as taking down the bloody sock

Only the Yankees, Dodgers and Rockies are more annoying than the Red Sox.

Probably demonstrates the "out of touch millionaire aristocrat" argument against him, more than anything else?  I mean, if anything, his point almost seemed overly intellectual.

Although, you'd think any reasonably smart politician in Rhode Island would teach themselves to be a Red Sox diehard, even if they weren't before they entered politics?

Actually, I'm not sure what sucking up has to do with it -- if Chafee was silent on the issue, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal.  Hell, if Chafee had said "Curt Schilling is a little bit of a douche" it wouldn't have big as big of a deal.

Instead, he advances a conspiracy theory, widely debunked, that one of the most famous sports moments in his entire state's modern history was fraudulent & faked -- well, that's basically what a birther sounds like to you and I for an apolitical Red Sox fan.

I mean, credibility is faked & created for all kinds of outreach -- especially for blue collar outreach, politicians often need to prove that they aren't out of touch -- hence the beer drinking & bowling etcetcetc.  Sports are just one component of that   If you don't follow sports -- that's fine, but you should probably avoid casting ignorant judgment, less you step on some toes.
