The Department of the Interior would like to make the following recommendations for first actions of the new government:

- Massive public works programme (Pretty much covered by Atlasia Works)
- Tax on oil profits and better safety stands OR nationalization
- Protection of the Atlasian auto industry
- An act to encourage the use of clean electricity
- Switching welfare to a Workfare system

MaxQue and I once tried floating the idea of a government-owned power company to distribute electricity based from solely clean sources, but this was not well received, sadly.

Well yeah. Sadly, the best elements of socialism (i.e. nationalization etc.) were stripped from the modern left.

Hey Winston, just a friendly reminder: note that several of the bills currently on the Senate floor make explicit reference to your office.

Actually, pretty much all of them do; take your pick.

(Also this one too, assuming the SBA is under the DOIA.)

Speaking of the SBA, by the way, I'll be introducing a bill to overhaul it in the near future. I'd like to put it's new resources to good use.

Concerned citizens might wonder why the DoI is no longer based in the Mike Naso Memorial Building. Said building was sold off to JDawsonAtlasia a perfectly respectable and not at all shady property development company. JDawsonAtlasia then sold it to the IngSoc group.

Is IngSoc, "not at all shady" either? Tongue

Report on Break the Chains Act

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

The Department of the Interior feels that this bill is a step in the right direction, but the major problem is that the bill was actually more effective in it's original form. Although maybe somewhere in between the original and the final bill would have been the correct approach, I cannot help but feel that this is not strong enough to be of any major consequence.

While in the short term, the bill will raise costs for business and may thus cause growth to slow somewhat, in the long term, this bill will diversify the economy and declaw the centralisation that has occured within this country's economy for the past century. However, there must be much more emphasis on decentralisation and on small dynamic business in the future.

The Department of the Interior feels that Bacon King's proposed amendment was the best version of the bill.

Hiring Incentives Act Vetoed

The Department of the Interior would like to express it's disapproval of the President's veto of the Hiring Incentives Act. Urgent action is needed to shore up the Atlasian economy and the Senate had found no fault with the legislation. Along with an agricultural stimulus and diversification act, I feel this would have been a major stimulus to the economy as well as supporting our manufacturing sector which is the true lifeblood of our economy and the section most in need of support.

Equality in Healthcare Act

The DoI has promptly began re-organization of the healthcare programs to take into account the effect of the newly passed act.
