You know, as for Polk. He is the ONLY President to accomplish everything he said he'd do. All four of his objectives were accomplished. I don't rank him in the top 5, but he did do everything he said he'd do.

But the things he did were bad things.

Conquering the Southwest was not bad for most Americans. In fact, it was good for the country because it strengthened our economy.

Just curious, but what warrants Madison's unusually high ranking?

Building up the army and navy

Had to be done to deal with the embarrassment that was the military at the start of the war of 1812.
