Now wait a minute, if there were only whites, then slavery would never have existed! and thus the Republican party wouldn't have either...

If the South would have still had plantations in a whites-only America, I could see the Anglo-Saxon whites enslaving the Mediterranean and Eastern European whites.

Um, why would Mediterranean and Eastern European whites immigrate to a country that would enslave them?

They wouldn't do it voluntarily. The Anglo-Saxons would bind them and force them to come over here. I think back in the Middle Ages Europeans actually enslaved one another, before they discovered the African slave trade.

I think a better phrasing of this question would have been "How would election results in the U.S. have turned out if only whites could vote in all U.S. states?"

Not a democrat would be in office at the federal level.

LOL. Dozens of congressional districts have more white Democrats than white Republicans.

Also, if we imagine America was all-white, that would change campaigns and perceptions of both parties. Take 1988, where Dukakis did better among whites living in predominantly white areas, than whites in areas with lots of blacks. (Compare the 1988 results of WA, OR, MN, WI vs. MD, DE, NJ, IL)

Yes whites in those states would vote democrat. However, would Obama be in office if it were just whites? No.

Of course he wouldn't be in office. If the U.S. was only white, he wouldn't be here since he is half black.

America would be a much more liberal place if we had racial homogenaity. It is the fear of "other" that makes us so conservative.

Not necessarily. Many people are conservative on issues like abortion and economic policy, which isn't related to race.

You don't think economic policy isn't related to race? Seriously?

It's not supposed to be related to race right now, even though there are traces of America's racial past in today's economic climate. For instance, blacks and Latinos are poorer than whites on average due to past racial discrimination laws. However, we are trying to become a post-racial society right now, and thus future (as in the long-run) economic policy will likely not be related to race.

To be honest, once I think about it further, the U.S. could look more like Europe if it was only white, both culturally and politically.

Lol. Everything would change if such a huge change was put in place.

Except the technology and stupidity.

1952: Eisenhower
1956: Eisenhower
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Nixon
1972: Nixon
1976: Ford
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: Obama

So basically the only difference is Ford wins in 1976, if I remeber correctly 1976 has the highest African-American turnout until '08.

JFK (and Truman for that matter) won the black vote overwhelmingly and also (probably) won the Latino vote as well. I'm sure the black and Latino vote allowed JFK and Truman to win their elections.

In 1960, AA's were split 50-50 when it came to party affliation.

What's your source for that?

According to the JFK Presidential Library, JFK won the black vote by a large margin:

Many older blacks might have voted for JFK while remaining registered Republicans, since they might have registered in their youth before the Great Depression began.
