Funny thing, considering that was the very idea that sparked this thread in my head.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett. I know he'd only have been in office for a year and a half but you can take a chance like that on a VP pick.

Might want someone with Foreign policy experience like Hoekstra if he wins the MI Governors mansion.

Another great one that would appeal to Social Conservatives should they not be happy with Daniels is fellow budget hawk, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). People would expect some kind of Sarah Palin but end up getting someone who knows substance on issues and can focus on pocketbook issues easily.

Ron Paul whatever benefits he would gain, would be hindered by his age though ironically he would best attract the most youth voters.

Rand Paul will be popular in KY should he win but would have trouble nationwide especially after most people nationwide know him as the guy who questioned the CRA of 1964. You can thank MSM for that.

I think Ron Paul type voters best hope is Daniels himself, man who seems to breath cutting the deficit and cares about little else. The Veep most likely would have to be someone Daniels can work well with and are similar to him like a Kasich or a Portman, or somebody who fills a deficiency like lack of trust on social issues among social conservatives or a lack of foriegn policy experience or both.

He'd probably be forced to pick someone like Palin or Huckabee.

Taking a chance like that didn't work out so well for McCain.

After's Palin's epic fail in 2008, I can't see any GOP contender ever picking her for VP again.

I would say he should look towards someone who is also known for their fiscal credentials, or known for experience with foreign policy/constitutional issues.

I can see him picking John Thune or Mike Huckabee to build a mid-western base.

I don't think he had a shot after the markets crashed. And I'm sure the Daniels team will be a lot more meticulous in the vetting of their VP pick.

Probably someone with good Social Conservative credentials, as that's where he's weakest among the GOP base.

As for specifics, the election's more than 2 years away, and he hasn't evven announced if he's running yet, so i really can't say.

I can see him picking John Thune or Mike Huckabee to build a mid-western base.

South Dakota has practically no influence on American politics to the east of the Minnesota and Iowa state lines.

Huckabee would be a choice with which to shore up Southern -- not Midwestern -- support.

Huckabee is quite popular with evangelicals in a state like Iowa.

Yank made a good suggestion in Marsha Blackburn. She is what I would consider a smarter version of Sarah Palin. I think she could shore up social conservatives, keep the South in the Republicans corner, and maybe even help the woman vote. Best of all, I can't see her making as many gaffes as Palin or Biden.

Other than her, I think John Thune, Bobby Jindal, and maybe even Nikki Haley would be fine picks.

Thune to make a strong ticket though that doesn't really unite the party...

I think we'd be looking at a lot of 2010 winners...but we don't know who will have won yet Wink

Definitely not. The guy has no intention of running for any office.
