Newt Gingrich
Mitch Daniels
Mitt Romney
George Pataki
Tim Pawlenty

Unemployment is around 9%
There are high tensions on the international level including Iran, Gaza, North Korea. The President is pulling out of Iraq but violence is on the rise and there isn't much progress or loss in Afgan...China and Russia continue to build their nuclear and weapon capabilities. China is catching up with us economically and Russia is bullying former Soviet Union nations via computers and energy wise.

Newt and Daniels become the front-runners with Pataki at a close third. Gingrichmost likely wins the primary as he is the most recognizable candidate. Pataki gets to be the running mate in an attempt to sweep up some Mid-Atlantic states.

Romney - Green
Gingrich - Blue
Pawlenty - Red

Pataki, performing poorly in all lead-off states, as well as Daniels would drop out before Super Tuesday. And if they were still in the race on Super Tuesday, they would do poorly. Pataki may come close in New York, but that's it.

I think Pataki could play in the NE...but unless he wins both Florida and California obviously nothing would happen

Romney loses NH due to Indys crossing over and voting for Daniels. Pataki drops out after poor performances in the early states.

I really see Romney failing to do well. I could see Pataki being a major power player.

It would be very interesting to see Gingrich run in that scenario. He would certainly be the front runner. Other than him Daniels and Romney would be having it out.

Then, why would Romney lose his own state of Massachusetts?

I don't think Pataki is running for anything and the Christian Lobby would never let a pro-choice on the ticket.  Plus, NY is not turning Red, so he is useless.  I would pick pro-choice Ridge before Pataki.

Pataki didn't run for Senate because he's running for President. He's told people and he also made a PAC. Need any more proof?

Didn't he try to run in 2008 and dropped out.  If he runs, he only hurts Romney in NH.

Pataki floated the idea of running in 2008, but never went through with it.  No exploratory committee.  No nothing.  He may or may not do the same this time.  He has visited IA and NH and formed a PAC aimed at building public support to repeal HCR.

He rented some office space in NH, but closed it when he decided not to run.
