Labour won a majority of 179 in 1997, even with a good economy. What majority would they have got if the economy had been in recession?

Not much different, actually. In 1997 the Tories were punished for the bad economic conditions of the early 90s; the economic growth of the mid 90s felt quite hollow because of what had gone before.
