I said "I served in the Vietnam era".  He was a Marine reservist during that time.

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam.”
Blumenthal never served in Vietnam.  That's a lie.

Well, he served in the military during the Vietnam war. But just like for Bush, there was no "in Vietnam".

My Dem friends, look at the bright side. As someone else mentioned, we have found the early front-runner for this year's George Allen Memorial Award.

It's lucky this is before they've nominated him, so at least the Dems can pick a different candidate. Yikes.

Nice spin.  Please tell me when George Bush ever said he served in Vietnam.

Well, he said that he served in Alabama, which is about as true as saying that he served in Vietnam.

This is not a defense of what he did--claiming veteran status you don't have is pretty despicable-
Nah, pretending that the Texas Air Guard is "serving America" is despicable.

Actual outright lying like that is just stone dumb. Like, "too dumb to live" dumb.

Bloomy holds a press conference later today. Predictions?

What I hope is that he acknowledges his misstatements without abasing himself too much, describes his service as it was, expresses his respect and admiration for veterans, and then talks about why he's going to Washington to fight for Connecticut against the big banks, polluters, etc. as he always has. If he can't navigate this press conference successfully with a huge lead, he'd never make it through the campaign.

I mean, he did spend 8 years in the marine reserve:

But repeatedly claiming you were spit on when you came back from the war?   Oucho.

I presume it just became mantra for him to say that, like Hillary describing taking sniper fire (a more ridiculous falsehood, imo).

I find Hilarity's falsehood more understandable, actually.

Basically remembering what she was fearing at the time would happen as what actually happened.

One could make the case that serving in Vietnam was what Blumenthal was fearing at the time.

Put it this way. If Blumenthal had never actually been spit on, just heard tales of that from his war buddies; then that would be exactly the same as Hillary's lie.

Blumenthal says this per The Times story:

"In an interview on Monday, the attorney general said that he had misspoken about his service during the Norwalk event and might have misspoken on other occasions. “My intention has always been to be completely clear and accurate and straightforward, out of respect to the veterans who served in Vietnam,” he said."

Does anybody think this is good enough?  I don't. I think he is still lying. Is any voter going to believe he just "accidentally" misled folks with a poor choice of words because he has poor verbal skills or something?  Really?

Considering that the veterans being spit on is almost an urban legend and hardly ever happened, we know what the likeliness is.

This is pretty bad, but at least it's out now instead of just before November. He's got plenty of time to recovery.

Yeah, I meant: if that was the part he was lying on, and he'd actually been in Vietnam.
