Conservatives hold Newbury.

Labour holds Islwyn (swing of 9.1% from Labour to Conservatives).

These have to be the most distorted early election returns I have ever seen.  That's not surprising, as N. Ireland and Wales are being counted first.

So far all 14 Conservative seats are from England.

Are Labour doing better than expected, along with the Conservatives doing worse?

Guildford is a disaster for the Liberal Democrats, they may well end up down on 2005. Amusingly LDs whined about polls undestimating their support of all things.

Well, Guildford had an LD incumbent in 2005, not this year, so, if they are just holding steady rather than advancing, losing a lot of votes there is not a surprise. Very disappointing overall, but Guildford is not the reason.

No. I'd say, Conservatives are doing very well, Labor is better then expected (at least by me) in Scotland only, LD are doing badly - do not seem to be doing better than in 2005 in England and actually do far worse in Scotland.

So far all 14 Conservative seats are from England.

In 1997, all the Tory seats were in England.

I feel vindicated about this being a two-horse race all around.

Barring potential bad news in Scotland and Wales for the tories, is this about to become the biggest case of electoral dysfunction in a long time for the Lib Dems.
