Smiley Worryingly tedious. But as you can see I'm going to see how 'do-able' this is after years of thinking about it.

I will nedd to go over the figures. Using the 2000 electorate as used at the last Boundary Review for ease of use and getting 'best fit' wards.

I'm usually good with counties, but I have to admit I have no idea where that is

That's South-East Lancashire on the pre-1974 boundaries - the large grey area slightly to the right of the middle of the picture is the old Manchester County Borough.

I put labels to afleitch's base map a few months ago:

This is - potentially - great stuff. At some point (when I have enough free time) I'll do something similar with Wales.

Of course, the boundary around Manchester and Stockport shown there is hardly "old". Both cities have included ancestrally Lancashire and ancestrally Cheshire bits for decades before 1974. (Birmingham has included ancestrally Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Staffordshire bits for a hundred years.)

Stockport was often included in maps of both Cheshire and Lancashire.

I haven't forgotten this Smiley Though I'm being a bit more local Tongue

County Electorates (based on a mixture of 2003 and 2007 figures)

West Lothian 95,200 (and growing)
Edinburgh 328,000
Rest of Midlothian 141,900
East Lothian 51,500
Selkirk - 13,600
Roxburgh - 32,800
Berwick - 19,200
Peebles - 13,000

A playabout (and being generous to West Lothian) gives

West Lothian Northern - 43,200
West Lothian Southern - 52,000 - Some exchange between the tw possible
Midlothian Western -  55,800
Midlothian Central - 53,300
Peebles, Selkirk and Midlothian West - 59,400
Berwick and Roxburgh - 52,000

Worked out rather well Smiley Can't wait to tackle Stirlingshire Tongue
