Could the Democrats actual end up picking up his seat?
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Roxanne Conlin raised more money than incumbent Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, in the first quarter of 2010.
The incumbent senator still maintains a large cash lead with seven months before Election Day.
Conlin raised $663,335 between Jan. 1 and March 30, according to her report, which included a $30,919 personal contribution. Grassley raised $613,627 for the quarter, according to a summary of his report.
Even discounting Conlin’s personal contribution, she still raised more money.
Grassley continues to hold a big advantage in money in the bank.
He had nearly $5.4 million, while Conlin had a little more than $1 million. Conlin also loaned her campaign $250,000 during the quarter.
Conlin’s two primary opponents, Tom Fiegen and Bob Krause, couldn’t be reached Friday.
Senate reports were due Thursday to the secretary of the Senate, but unlike congressional reports, they often aren’t posted as quickly on the Federal Election Commission Web site.
