My suggesting is that each member country participate in a multi-lateral tobin tax in order to create more revenues and funding.

The UN serves as a valuable platform for diplomatic discussion. The talks alone make the UN worth having.

Then there are all the humanitarian functions the UN provides - peacekeeping missions which are largely successful. The WHO, IMF, & UNAIDS have all provided really valuable resources & education for developing nations.

So, yes, it's valuable. The alternative is all the nations just dealing through ambassadors, but no large-scale interaction amongst many nations at once.

Kick all the non-liberal democracies out.  We can use this map as a base and work from there.

dead0man suggestion would certainly improve the UN, but the UN in its current form is so horrible I think the best solution is to dismantle it.

That's a very very bad idea.

That's even worse.

Doing that to the UN would be bad...which is why should stay in the UN and keep it as a place where we can always talk to the "bad guys".  (I'd suggest we move it to Europe though)  We could then start a new organization of liberal democracies, giving trade advantages to each other....free trade where it's workable.  Encourage the rest of the nations to shape up and join the cool kids at the party.  Offer toasters and trips to Vegas for the newcomers as added incentive.  Screw the jerks with fake democracies and those that refuse to let women and minorities have any power.  They don't deserve to hang out with us.  If it pisses the losers off, too bad.  They can suck eggs.

I seem to recall coming up with that idea. Tongue

At any rate, I think that if we do that, we should co-found it with a few other countries, including ones we have had some disagreements with. Don't want it to just be a platform for American jingoism.

Actually I've been saying it for years.
The UN is dying a beast.  We need a new world organization.
NATO shouldn't take orders from the UN, it should replace it.
Hell, even Xahar agrees!
The UN sucks and will never accomplish anything meaningful. A new body is required for that.
Of course two days later in the same thread...
The UN isn't doing enough to destroy the sovereignty of its members.

Of course.  We don't even need to be any more "special" than the EU or India.  As long as the money for it is spread just as evenly.

Yeah, that was a while ago.

Not that I disagree with what you say, of course.

I swear that I came up with the idea on my own as well, but I don't care. Not like I could prove that anyway.

At any rate, some sort of cooperation between the "freer" countries of the world would be quite a promising system.

If all member nations of the UN recognize me as supreme leader of the planet, the UN will improve greatly.

Getting rid of John Bolton was a big improvement itself.

Having a more interesting and/or charasmatic leader than Ban-ki Moon. He's hella boring, makes Kofi Annan look like Blair or Sarkozy.
