A small historical celebration that's become popular in recent years as many of the 20th century Presidents hit the mark is the library organization of the President holding a "centennial celebration" for the 100th birthday of said President.  Coinciding is a showmanship resolution in the Congress and a bunch of members getting up and speaking about said President on his birthday.

The most recent of these was Lyndon B. Johnson day at the Capitol in May of 2008.  The next will happen in February for Ronald Reagan.

The next after that? January 9, 2013... 100 years of Richard M. Nixon.  Just playing devil's advocate, but would you support a resolution honoring Nixon?  Is a President who was dishonorably discharged still worth honoring in the same way?  If so, what would you get up and say about him if you were in the Senate/House on that day?

I'd raise a glass for Nixon.  Congress should too.

EDIT:  For his birthday, not for his actions.  A man's birthday is an important occasion, you know.

No, waste of time.  Who cares when dead guys have birthdays?  Oh, that's right, we do.  30 percent of our national holidays honor dead guy's birthdays.  We get too much time off for stupid sh**t in this country.

Don't complain about "stupid sh**t" holidays until you go to Austria and try to buy groceries on St.  Whodaf**kisdat day... an obscure Catholic holiday remembering some little known shepherd from northern Slovakia who lived in the 16th century... and everybody gets the day off... so good luck trying to buy anything or like... get something to eat.

Besides, Dead0man.. nobody gets those "silly" holidays off in the U.S. anymore.

Of course.

Nixon's reputation is beginning to be repaired.  He was a political genius, and a good President.  He deserves to be celebrated.

Its' funny how are you trying to make Nixon almost a son of the devil. Nixon had a lot of positive contributions too.

I don't think his image will ever truly be repaired; When Obama praised the presidents who sought health care reform, he curiously left out Richard Nixon.

Yes. They should celebrate the 100th birthday of every former member of congress. That will give them less time to screw up the country.

I think they should honor Nixon with a moment of silence.  No, make that 18 1/2 minutes of silence.
