Sven, would you like to compare and contrast a Svensson Governorship with a Vepres Governorship?

Sven, would you like to compare and contrast a Svensson Governorship with a Vepres Governorship?

Yes, actually. That's quite a good suggestion. For a start...

  • I expressly guarantee that I will not run for any other Atlasian office until I retire or am voted out. The only reason by which I would leave my post would be if I were chosen as a member of the Presidential cabinet. I will not obsessively pursue a Senate seat in lieu of governing my Region, for improving the Midwest will be my first and foremost goal.

With that out of the way...

  • I will always seek ways to cut pointless spending as an alternative to increased taxation. I will only ever increase taxes in times of emergency merit. Vepres has, in the past, called himself a candidate of both less taxation and less spending, but I haven't seen much in the way of evidence to support that.
  • Admittedly, I do commend Vepres' handling of Regional disputes. I plan to continue such policy should I be elected governor - unless the Midwest is directly involved, our Region shall not take direct part in any inter-Regional conflict.
  • I will advocate more effective penalties upon unreasonable businesses than what has been done, most specifically health insurance companies.
  • I will make certain that our Region's entire energy portfolio is put to use. There will be no dependence on any one resource - the Midwest has too much at its disposal for that. To make the Region prosper, everything must be employed well. Nuclear power is well and good, but it is far from the only option available to us.
  • Most importantly to me, as governor, I will not expand executive power to such a point that it infringes upon the rights and privacy of the people. Being an active governor is good, and very healthy for the Region, but I feel there should be an agreed limit as to how far that should be taken.

I wholeheartedly encourage the Governor to come here and engage me in debate. Win or lose in the election, I feel it would be helpful to those who will be voting. Smiley

I would be willing to host a Gubernatorial Debate if you and Vepres find it suitable.
